Is the bull rush his only move?

Postby BigE » Wed Oct 07, 2009 2:02 am

LaMarr Woodley, who is quickly turning into Clark Haggans right before our very eyes, has done absolutely nothing the entire season. Looking at Woodley Sunday night, it would seem that he is a little to big right now. The guy is a monster and obviously has lost some speed and quickness because of it. Also, it seems as is LaMarr has 1 move and 1 move only, the bull rush! I never see this guy try to beat his man with any other move than this one. It seems he just locks horns with the opposing tackle and simply just trys to run him over. This needs to be addressed, the swim move or the arm over move, do something other than just run smack dab into the blocker and then procede to titty joust for a couple of seconds, whereas applying no pressure whatsoever. The Wood better get his head out of his ass and soon, we need him badly!!!

Woodley is a major concern right now.

Also, with all the attenton opposing offenses are giving our outside rushers, we really need to start getting push up the middle. Something different than that criss-crossing fire blitz Lebeau likes to run and that fools no one anymore.

Why Ziggy Hood isn't getting more snaps is a mystery to me. The defense can't be THAT complex that he can't come in as a situational pass rusher from time to time.

I would like to extend the questios of this string somewhat to Harrison as well. Last season we all sat in front of our TVs screaming that Harrison is being held. Most of the time it was so obvious because the tackle was literally choking James on his way to the ground. I can't recall seeing that happen more than once. When I watch Harrison, he doesn't seem to be trying to beat the tackle to the outside but rather has adopted Woodley's bull rush technique. I don't even think Harrison lines up as wide as he did last year.

I am sure o-tackles studied enough film to know not to let Harrison rush with his right arm free - but Harrison appears to be making it easier for them by taking them head-on with both arms.

As far as Woodley goes - yes he is a one trick pony. I wish Kevin Greene could sit him down again this year but he is coaching the Packers.

I was thinking that Greene could help as well. He supposedly added 20 pounds this off season in an attempt to get stronger. It seems he's more suited to be a DE right now than a stand up OLB.

In regards to Ziggy, please excuse me for channeling Mill, but I'm not sure he's learned the playbook in Farsi yet, so he can't get on the field.

I would also prefer to see #92 dropping back into pass coverage a whole lot less often.
This goes for Woodley too, who is an obvious liability in pass coverage.

Ponder this:

Timmons replacing Woodley at OLB
Fox replacing Timmons at ILB

:geek: :x :geek:

i am all for it against an opponent against like detroit or cleveland. it couldn't be worse (which really isn't THAT bad) than what is in play now.

interesting idea/package

Ponder this:

where is ziggy and why?

Ziggy is not playing much simply because Aaron Smith has been playing on an all-world level. This is according to coaches. Ziggy is used to spell Smith when he needs a rest for a couple of plays, but Ziggy doesn't improve our defense when he is in the game and Smith sits out.

I agree that they should be looking at a way to get him more playing time... maybe switch to the other side or more nickel/ dime stuff. But as for base defense, it isn't too wise to replace a pro-bowler with a rookie just to get him some time.

I just had a thought... maybe if we would stop all these close damn games, ziggy could get some serious 4th quarter time. Ah but that takes dominating the other team and we seem to have forgotten how to do that for more than one quarter.

Totally agree with the inside rush- but old man pappy ain't what he used to be.

How bout this? Timmons replaces the Big Taunter Farrior (echoing stillmill) and Fox slides over and takes Timmons spot. Farrior needs to get the fuck out of there!! On the idea of Timmons replacing Woodley, you do have to have some size and strength at OLB. Timmons is fast enough, but is he strong enough?

I keep seeing Timmons getting blocked too easily by the guard on running plays. My fear going into the season. But he knocked down 4 passes. He is an OLB playing inside.

That's where it's at far as I am concerned. In passing situations get the Zigster in there and lets see if we get that double team on Jamie loosened up

Agree completely. On passing situations you trot Fox and Ziggy out there. They could do the foxtrot.

It would be nice to get a bigger push from the interior on passing plays. I think everyone's hoping Hood can be that guy.

Clark 'The Ghost' GildedDong Woodley is way too heavy this year. He's lost a step due to putting on 20 lbs. SlimFast needs to become his best friend.

Honestly, I think Woodley made a huge error in judgment during the off season in bulking up like he did. He looks stiff as a corpse out there. This is why he's on pace for a no sack, 9 tackle, 2 assists season. Tomlin needs to sit him like he did Fatboy Hampton til he loses weight. Then maybe he'll produce.
Bruce Arians: Proudly carried the Honor of Short Bus All-Star 2007-2011. Good job, and glad you're gone Dumbfuck!!!!!
