Scoring from longer distances is key to success this year

Postby toomuchmerrilhoge » Wed Sep 30, 2009 5:26 pm

With the Steelers demonstrating week-in, week-out, their inability to score from the goal line (unless Ben dives in himself), scoring from long distances (20 yds or more) this year is our best option. We've seen it already in the Tennessee game (the long TD pass to Holmes), and the Bengals game (an improv play to Willie Parker). We also tried the bomb to Wallace, which would have worked if he had been able to stay in bounds. I have a feeling that as the season progresses, look for Ben to go deep more often, from the opponents 30-40 yd line or so. It really is our best chance to put up points.

This seems like the answer if it was properly implemented heres why:

First half toss it deep from there and score a few TDs if it doesnt work kick FGs.

Second half when they start droping off the line to protect the end zone run willie off the out side or screen passes i like our chances of wille hitting the secondary at top speed or with a set of blockers out front.

Here lies the problem

If this did work in the first half "or even once" Bruce would never change it because it worked.
