I'm still fuming over that timeout we called on THIRD down and 4 at the 35 yard line late in the first half. We have 1:22 and two timeouts. We're up 13-zip. We burn our 2nd timeout at 1:20. Ben throws incomplete pass. 4th down and 4 on the 35 yard line, 1:15 to play. Bengals have all three timeouts.

The correct call here is to let some time run off the clock, because the third down conversion wasn't a given. We still had two timeouts in case we did convert the play. Ben throws same incomplete pass. Now there's 50 seconds to play. Had Ben completed that pass, we'd be around the 25 with 50 seconds to play, and burned our second time out right there. Still PLENTY of time.

Since the Bengals had all three timeouts, 50 seconds would have still been a lot of time, but that timeout gave them another 20 to 30 seconds, which is an ETERNITY. Proper play? Since Reed's kicking has suddenly gone South, we PUNT in this situation. Better 85 yards than 65.

But I think Tomlin, in realizing the timeout call was STUPID, thought he could maybe cover it up if we convert that 4th and 4. He wanted to avoid the embarrassment of a Bengals half-ending possession with the extra time from that ill-called TO. Not only did the play fail, but the Bengals on that very drive, moved quickly down the field and scored on the chippie FG. The Bengals now had momentum.

And as we can see, that was the very difference in the game. For all I know, if we still had that 13 point lead, we run the ball more in the 3rd quarter, and maybe don't get burned by that Pick Six.

I really think our downfall in the Bengals game was stupid decisions by our coaching staff, which snowballed as the game progressed. Our "D" may have been putrid, but it really shouldn't have come down to that.

what i also thought was big once Johnson got hurt and we had no Fullback.we needed to use Miller as a blocker and take a weapon away from the Passing Game.
