Looking Ahead: Week 3 - Steelers vs Bungalz
Last week's loss to the Bears opened all of our eyes to the weaknesses of our secondary. Troy masks many of the problems this secondary has, and his absence reminds me of 2006 when he was out for several games. Therefore going into the Bengals game, here's a brief list of questions:
Defense:
1) Can we stop OchoCinco/Chris Henry?
2) Should Mundy start over Carter?
3) Where are the sacks/pressures from Harrison/Woodley?
4) Why in God's name is Ziggy Hood riding the pine?
Offense
1) Will Tomlin give Mendy the bulk of the work this week, and give him a chance to break out?
2) Will Sweed EVER get on the field this year?
3) Will BA incorporate Logan into any facet of the offense?

yes, we will be able to stop the big play, but will concede the typical one or two TD's through the air, most likely on third downs in the red zone
mundy should only start if carter's unable to go, he should get plenty of reps though, at least split time with carter to gain some valuable experience, carson will shred either safety imo
woodley has been a huge letdown so far this year. kinda odd considering his breakout year last year. harrison is being negated by those short passes. we are unlucky that other teams OC's actually game plan and expose opposing defenses weaknesses. (get a clue BA)
ziggy is another product of our draft philosophy, which is sit first, play later. Don't know if thats how we keep from paying these guys big money and how we can keep so many vets.
offense
no, mendy will play second fiddle to willie. willie has a pretty good history vs. the bengals
no, not unless he is healthy and/or there is an injury
no, don't count on arians doing anything proactive at all this year. i'm convinced this guy has a learning disability

The Bengals just beat Green Bay and should have beat Denver, they are looking like they want it more going into this week, especially after our sleepwalk last week.
Defense:
1) Can we stop OchoCinco/Chris Henry? and /L Coles ...This would depend on if we can disrupt Palmer soon enough with the pressure and blitzes
2) Should Mundy start over Carter? NO! Mundy shows great ability but he is only 20 years old!
3) Where are the sacks/pressures from Harrison/Woodley? Good question...our pressure is what helped us last season...we need to have them show up or we're done. Don't forget that Cedric Benson rushed for over 100 yards in the last game so, pressuring the WR's and the Blitzes may backfire as we shoot the hole and he runs right by.
4) Why in God's name is Ziggy Hood riding the pine? He needs 4-7 reps a game, heck, start thinking of him over Woodley if he fails to show for another game.
Offense
1) Will Tomlin give Mendy the bulk of the work this week, and give him a chance to break out? Willie did better last game but still looked awkward on several jaunts that could have gained more yards and much more yards after 1st contact. Mendy shows that he can run after contact but, why not Moore?
2) Will Sweed EVER get on the field this year? He deserves the chance.
3) Will BA incorporate Logan into any facet of the offense? Will BA or somebody tell Ben to start throwing some quick outs or hitches!? We have great blocking WR's and TE's, save Speath, this would totally ease up the Oline.

Look at this. Everyone is picking the freaking Bengals. What's up?!?!? A couple of dropped pass and missed FGs and people jump off of the wagon.
I expect Tomlin to get the team to respond. This will be a bounceback game.
The Bears didn't win the game. We lost it.

Well maybe it's because you guys lost to the Bears who Lost to the Packers?I'm kinda surprised myself I know ESPN is still hating on the bengals says supposed be 2-0 but still has em ranked like 24th/25th...

I certainly didn't mean to suggest that the Steelers would lose on Sunday, I have full confidence that Tomlin will have this team turned around and ready to play. Carson will get jittery and make mistakes.

The key to beating Cincy is the same to beating Chicago: get off the field on 3rd down.
Everybody knew we needed to hit Cutler early and often; if my memory is correct he carved us up a few years ago-at home-when w/Denver.
This week is no different; if CP is hit early and often, we will be fine; if given time to work; we'll be in for a long afternoon; couple this with a Cincy ground game which is better than believed and problems magnify.
I am not an alarmist but although only week 3, this is a big game, especially w/SD coming into town next week. 1st division game, on the road, against a team that believes in themselves. I'm anxious to see how we respond after failing to grasp the chance to go 2-0.

I will say this again. It would appear (I don't have empirical evidence) that the Cards provided a very usable blueprint for beating the Steelers in the SB. Essentially a short quick passing game. This would explain the reason Wood and Harrison are not getting the sacks. Until Tricky Dicky counters this, expect to continue to see it every week. A good start would be getting the fucking corners somewhere near the WR prior to the snap instead of 15 yards off.
TP43 is missed. I dismiss the notion of putting Mundy in. For all the crying we do over Dick's defense, I do not suspect Mundy is anywhere near being able to be effective on a routine and regular basis (it IS that complicated. Recall how we all thought TP was a bust during his first couple of years?!). Can Mundy do spot and situational duty, sure. Otherwise, they DO NEED Carter in (I'm not saying this is better; rather, the best of two evils). Putting Mundy and Gay out there at the same time is a crisis waiting to happen.
Mendy? Hell, it will take more than one 30+ yard run through a hole that a geriatric could have pranced through before we clamor for him.
Cincy should not be taken lightly, it's not a gimme, and this is an important game (they all are).

Two words: Controlled Chaos.
That will win it for us. Have the defense NOT play to fucking lose.
