Pirates "Small Market" Excuse
The Florida Marlins have the lowest payroll in MLB,(about 11-12 million less than The Pirates), yet they, once again, have an above .500, competitive team, while Pirates Management tells us it's going to be 2-4 more years before The Pirates will start winning again. Why can The Marlins win right now with baseball's lowest payroll, but it will take The Pirates 2-4 years to start winning again with a higher payroll? Jesus is this franchise putrid!

Agree their is no ecuse for the pirates.
As to the Marlins, and all Florida teams.
I believe the taxes are such that these pro athletes salaries are taxed at a lower rate in that State than in other markets, which can allow Florida teams to pay a little less.

we can't keep giving away our best players every year.
it's like they are CONSTANTLY building for 2-3 years down the road.
They've been building for 2-3 years for FIFTEEN YEARS.

All the Pirate's Management has to do is look out the window, across the parking lot to see how to build a franchise and keep it competitive for, say the NEXT FORTY YEARS. You set your foundation players in place (Bradshaw, Green, etc.) and you build around them. It's so gawddamn simple a mentally retarded monkey that's been drinkin could figure it out. You DON'T toss out your building blocks every three years as the 'house will have no 'foundation'.
Jezzus H. Cripes, what's so hard about this concept?....

bigjoespompano, I completely agree. Don't the Stillers play in the same "small market" as the Bucos?
Can't the Rooney's just buy the pirates and bring some semblance of decency back to baseball in the 'burgh? Like you said, it isn't friggin' rocket science. Boy do I long for the days of Pops Stargell...
