my thoughts on the Titans game.

Postby lloydgreene » Mon Sep 14, 2009 8:35 am

Our O-line gave us every reason to worry about running the ball and protecting BR7. They seemed to hold thier own when we needed to air it out late in the game. Getting BR7 sacked 4 times does not bode well for a super bowl run or even keeping Ben healthy for the year. I have to keep saying this: we extended ALL of those guys contracts in the off season. Big money for the ring... not for the execution.

I have a feeling that ALOT of teams are going to struggle against the Titans defensive line this year. They are that good.

Special Teams:
Stephan Logan was a difference maker as I thought he would be. No TD's (yet) but a nice difference in starting field position which kept us leaning forward if you will.
Sepulvado had some huge punts that had the TittieBabies backed up to their own end zone. They were able to march down the field on us a pretty good bit before we finally held them to field goals. Better starting field position might have helped their cause tremendously.
Why the freak was TP43 in on a field goal unit? The leader of our defense does not need to be throwing his body into the mix with 300 pound linemen. I know, how about putting BR7 back as our punt returner? That makes about as much sense to me.

Defense- TP43 is amazing. We will miss him for however long his injury takes, but we will play a little more conservatively and still be one of the top 5 defenses in the league.

We have the best WR duo in the league. I am not that unhappy that we rely on the passing game more than in the past. The Wallace/Sweed competition will still be playing itself out through the season and we will be better off for it.

BR7 looks like he needs to carry us on his shoulders this year. Again.

Watching the other games from around the league, I've seen penetration into, and through, the offensive lines and running backs were still able to gain decent yardage by being patient, and feeling for the holes that result. They had to break arm tackles, but that's it.
1/2 of the blame for the running game goes to the backs. Arians and the line get the rest.

:suplusone: AND :suplusone:

Don't forget Heath Miller. 8 catches for 64 yards, he must have been like WTF? There is NO reason this guy should be on the sideline for passing downs.

Reason why Sweed not ready for playoffs last yr was NOT enough PT. I agree, let these 2 alternate and let stats speak for themselves. Both present different issues with opposing defenses;1 is smallish, fast, and can get open; the other very tall and can be a devastating blocker as well as runs very well.

Will we use them? I doubt it. Said before, these 2 NEED 5-7 touches per game to keep drives alive, keep our D fresh, keep other D "gassed" as we saw with Titans. Instead we'll see the 1-back, bunch BS for 3rd & 1's, 3rd & 3's. Thank God for Seppy being back. We'll need him until MT takes Arians out.

What in the world did Singletary do with his D in San Fran to shut down Larry and Anquan? Of course, we shut them down in SB until something changed in 4th qtr. Hummmm.

I was listening to the commentators during the game and they supposedly discussed with BR7 the fact that the O line is taking alot of the blame for their shoddy craftmanship as of late, and they said that BR7 is the one to blame by his own admission as he scrambles around to make a play when a receiver gets open.

Don't know if BR7 actually said it or if it his way of making the line seem better than it actually is...

Ben did say that and he is trying to be a gracious teammate. He does take some unnecessary sacks, but he bails them out of many should-have-been sacks as well.

Does BR block on run plays? Does he carry the ball? The government workers need to step up. Period. After 3 years under the current regime, they are confused, unprepared and incapable of establishing a run game.

They will have a few big games this year, when FWP breaks one or two big runs (he still has it in him). but over the course of the year we need to pray that BR7 stays healthy.
