It's kind of hard to say that without knowing the exact details of the offer. Reed has been a very solid kicker for the Steelers since 2002. He's kicked in a lot of big games. Honestly, I don't blame him one bit for wanting to be rewarded with a nice fat contract.

Judging by his off the field antics Jeff Reed strikes me as a total tool, but I sure am glad he's our kicker. Given the fact that he has to kick at one of the toughest stadiums to kick a football in at least 8 times a year I'd say that he's one of, if not the top kicker in the league. I hope we get him signed

It's quite apparent that Reed was LOWBALLED. His agent saw what we threw recently at the likes of Keisel, Farrior, Kemo, and others. Reed kicks in THE toughest stadium in the entire NFL and does it well. He'll have at least 8 teams hovering over him in the days before the FA period in Feb. He is gonna get BIG money. We should have targeted him, with a bigger offer, long before Sunday nite. He will be much harder to replace than even Keisel.

#1 - The Steelers know what they are doing. They are very patient and every time they make a huge "risk" like letting Alan Faneca go, they usually get good results.

#2 - I don't know what kickers are getting paid these days but if they offered him anywhere from 2 - 2.5 mil per year they definitely gave him a fair offer. His last contract was 5 years for 7.5 I believe and that was very highly paid for a kicker back then.

yes, BACK THEN. This is 2009. "Back then", Reed was a no-name kicker who was awarded the job on a whim by Cowher at a mid-season tryout, and then had a couple solid seasons.

He has since CEMENTED himself as a money kicker, in bad weather conditions as well as poor field conditions. Reed is the man. He deserves more than some piddly, meager deal.

He's one of the best kickers in the league, I don't blame him for wanting a paycheck to reflects that. That doesn't make him greedy, unless, of course, the situation is similar to Crabtree's.

In 2006 Adam Vinatieri signed a 5 year, $12 million contract that made him the highest paid kicker in the league. Last year Robbie Gould signed a 5 year, 15.5 million deal that made him the highest paid kicker in the league. If the Steelers offer Reed somewhere in the neighborhood of 2.5 - 3 million per season that would be a fair deal. 5 years $12.5 - $15 mil should definitely be accepted by Reed's camp. He's a great field goal kicker but his kickoffs are still pretty below par. I think 5 years $12.5 would be fair.
