Ward to play through 2013

Postby thesteelhammer » Mon Sep 07, 2009 4:41 pm

Ron Cook, of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports Pittsburgh Steelers WR Hines Ward's new extension during the offseason has him under contract with the team through 2013. Ward plans to fulfill it even though he will be 37 years old by the end of the '13 season. "I don't see why I can't do it. I'm still getting open against the other team's No. 1 cornerback, still getting separation. And the way coach (Mike) Tomlin protects me, not beating me up in training camp, giving me Wednesdays off during the season ... That's going to keep me healthy and keep me fresh," Ward said.

If Rice made it to 43, Ward can make it to at least 37

I like the approach Tomlin is taking with Hines. Keeping him fresh will pay dividends in the long run.

Players like Hines earn that respect and it reinforces my faith in Coach Tomlin that he recognizes that. Ward went to hyperbarric hell last year to play in the super bowl and he has shown his committment. If he only would smile a little more....

Behind Mel Bount and Rod Woodson, this will be 3rd hardest to see go. I live in SC and the GA fans still talk about him. Won't be replaced but WILL BE long remembered.

Hines bleeds back and gold, he always will be with us in some aspect of the game.
