LeBeau Gets Seniors Committee HoF Nomination
OK, this is a great post and thread concerning LeBeau's HoF nomination consideration.

There's plenty of discussion regarding the under-representation of the Bronco's in the HoF, but other than that, it's interesting to note that he's not yet being considered because he is still an active coach.

Specifically:
Of course, when you combine that "very good" playing career with his outstanding work as a coach, suddenly he becomes an obviously worthy candidate. In fact, he probably deserves to get in as a coach even disregarding his playing career, as he was one of the most successful and innovative defensive minds ever.
and
Since he's still active as a coach, Hall voters are instructed to ignore his coaching body of work and elect him (or not) based strictly on his playing career. Which is pretty stupid in my mind, but there it is. Hopefully, Hall voters are not big enough idiots to actually pretend that the last 30-40 years of LeBeau's career never happened, regardless of any instructions they might have received, because I agree that LeBeau is not quite HoF-caliber as a player alone.

The PG had this today

The LeBeau file
50 years in the NFL, 36 as a coach and 14 as a player.
171 consecutive games played for a cornerback, still an NFL record.
62 career interceptions is currently tied for seventh all time in the NFL.
3 Pro Bowl appearances as a player.
10 coaching jobs with four NFL teams, including three seasons (2000-02) as the Cincinnati Bengals head coach.
6 times the Steelers' defense has finished the season ranked in the top five in the NFL in LeBeau's seven years as coordinator.
2 Super Bowl championships as Steelers defensive coordinator.

I still can't figure out why LeBeau didn't make it into the HOF simply as a cornerback. 171 consecutive games played and 62 interceptions isn't enough to get you nominated? I also remember hearing that when he retired as a player his 62 picks were number 1 at that point and time.

I Know of StillMills disdain for the man
but personally, he's a hero of mine. And i've always admired him and his contributions to the modern Steel Curtain.

That is why I think that there is much in the way of politics involved in getting players nominated for the Hall. I talked and listened to some of the people that do the nominating/electing process, and many, many deserving players that should be in get overlooked every year. I mean, they're just sports writers from around the country. I am certain that other teams have standout players, but one that comes to mind instantly is L.C. Greenwood. He is a good example of what I am talking about.
The murderer, Orenthal James Simpleton is one that should be taken out of the H.O.F., but we have to be politically correct and leave him in there.

Re: LeBeau Gets Seniors Committee HoF Nomination
Finally gets his due. Watch for his enshrinement and look all the players that show up for him. That will tell you all you need to know about this Man among men.
With Johnson's passing in Phila., who out there can compare with DL's defenses? Maybe Baltimore's designers but take out Reed and Lewis, are they the same? Don't think so. How many players have worn the Black 'n Gold and the "D" continues to shine? No tarnish here, no matter who seems to play. THAT's coaching.
You are right, O.J. MUST go! Get him out. It's a priviledge, not a right, to be in there. Srew it up, lose your priviledge. Many deserve but aren't selected. He's deserving but no one should be allowed a 1-way ticket in.
It should be an honor and one that should be lived up to. But there is a responsibility that goes with it.
