Final 53
Hi, I'm a long time reader, wanted to get in on posting.
So with Training Camp wrapped. What's the thoughts out there on the final roster.
Here's my thoughts
QBs ( pretty easy)
Roth
Batch
Dixon
RBs ( I think Logan beats out Burnett and the staff is going to stick, wrongly, with CDav over keeping Red or Summers)
Parker
Mendy
Moore
Davis
Logan
WRs (I was thinking maybe, but decided Baker and Nance are battling for PS)
Ward
Holmes
Sweed
Wallace
McDonald
TEs (Been hearing the same as everyone - johnson is pushing out mchugh)
mill
Spaeth
Johnson
C (stills usually keep fa signings)
Hartwig
Stepanovich
G
Urbik
Kemo
Essex
Staple
T (Maybe they'll keep one more T and one less G)
Starks
Colon
Capiz
Hills
DL ( I think they keep around a few linemen to rotate out the old guys)
Smith
Keisel
Hamp
Hoke
Kirsch
Hood
Eason
LBs (Ton of competition just to make the 7th backer/ PS)
Harrison
Harrison
Farrior
Timmons
Woodley
Davis
Fox
Fraiser
CBs (Lewis beats out Burnett who is really out for KR only)
Lewis
Ratliff
Townsend
Taylor
Gay
Madison
S ( I figure Town will help out with S work)
Pola
Carter
Clark
Specialists
Reed
Sepulv
Warren
PS ( I don't know eligibility rules, it seems that after 3 years you aren't allowed on.)
Legursky
Burnett, Joe
Parquet, Jeremy (not sure if he's still eligible)
Korte ( nearly had him make the 53 due to play in pre-seas)
Paxson, Scott
Foster, Ramon
Redman, Isaac
Woods, Donovan
Nance, Martin

Re: Final 53
Nice first post.
Welcome to the board.
Hope your wrong on Davis over Redman
Think your short a Saftey also and have an extra d-lineman
Nice call on Stepanovich
Think Baker might make it also, but not sure where the spot comes from.

Re: Final 53
Nice posting of 53. Next group of SB Champs!
Rather see Redman than Davis but there must have been a reason for redman to go to Bowie and not a D-1. That said, Darrell Green was a D-2 player too! Walter Payton wenmt to J-ville State so mistakes can be made. A mistake is keeping Davis but Redzone on PS is a viable option.
Didn't see the game but looks like Batch did nothing,...again. He's done. But we'll have to keep him, at least until waiver wire shows something.
How did rookie TE Johnson do against 'Skins? Hope to see him more.

I think Bailey pushes out Davis at LB.

Re: Final 53
Bailey stays hes a demon on ST. We keep Johnson so we dont need Davis or McHugh. This opens it up for Burnett and Redman. We need Burnett for his ballhawking in our pass defense packages.
Re: Final 53
Nice post. I agree with most of it, but I didn't see Big Snack. I also see Ramon Foster (plays tackle and guard) making the final 53 over Urbik.

Re: Final 53
QB (3)--Ben, Batch, Dixon
RB (5)--Parker, Meny, Moore, Logan, Summers (Like what Redman has shown, but no room. Can develop on PS. Tomlin said we must improve short yardage and Davis is part of the problem not a solution)
TE (3)--Miller, Spaeth, McHugh (B/C keep Summers over Davis need some experience as lead blocker option. Johnson can go on PS and be available depending on circumstances)
WR (5)--Ward, Holmes, Sweed, McDonnald, Wallace
OL (9)--Hartwig, Kemo, Stapleton, Starks, Colon, Essex, Hills, Urbik, Stepanovic (Foster and Shipley PS)
DL (7)--Hampton, Smith, Keisel, Hood, Hoke, Kirschke, Harris
LB (9)--Harrison, Woodley, Timmons, Farrior, Fox, Davis, Woods, Bailey, A. Harrison
DB (9)--Ike, Gay, Pola, Clark, Townsend, Lewis, Burnett, Madison, Mundy (Lewis to PS and cut the oldies Carter and Ratliff)
Specialists (3)--Reed, Sepulveda, Warren
RB (5)--Parker, Meny, Moore, Logan, Summers (Like what Redman has shown, but no room. Can develop on PS. Tomlin said we must improve short yardage and Davis is part of the problem not a solution)

This looks like mine. Hills looks like shit though just not sure what to do about it yet.

I can't see Summers making it based on what he's shown so far. Of course he didn't get any playing time last game but I think that speaks to what the coaches think of him so far. Reports out of camp said he couldn't score in the goal line drill and he didn't look very impressive in our first pre season game. I'd love to see Redman and Logan in the last two RB spots but for some reason the coaching staff will keep Carey Davis around. What an absolute stud Logan was on returns. I think we've finally found a keeper at that position! Of course it was just one pre season game but he showed great speed, acceleration, and decision making with the ball in his hands. And that's the best part, the ball stayed in his hands! NO FUMBLES! Woo-hoo!

Re: Final 53
I agree Hills is still a question-mark and so is Urbik for that matter. I assume though b/c of their pedigree we have a better chance of keeping Foster on PS than either of them. It seems to give us the most flexibility possible. Capizzi, Parquette, and Legursky just haven't done enough to overcome Hills' upside in my opinion.
Unfortunately we are splitting hairs with a pretty poor lot of offensive linemene all around.
I also haven't heard about Summers tearing it up, but he just can't be worse than Davis, and Redman isn't a lead guy. You may be right about Davis, but I hope not. He has proven to me that he is worthless as a running back. Can't run, block, or be a consistant receiver. 'Nuff said.

Summers has an injury but he played in PS game 1 & has had plenty of playing time as a FB where I have said in the past I thought was his best shot at making the top 53. It's still a long shot but I like what he brings as a lead blocker and receiver out of the BF. The only question is his protection skills. I just haven't seen him enough. If Davis beats him out that will be the reason. Look at Davis's resume. What keeps him on the roster.

Great point. I really can't think of anything single play that Davis has made that makes me think WOW we need to keep him around! I just don't get it.
