John P. Lopez says it's Aaron Smith

Got any arguments for others.

Although Aaron Smith is awesome and one heck of an anchor for that defense (remember, that run D fell apart 2 years ago when he tore his bicep), my vote would be for Polamalu.

He's the major playmaker on that defense, and without his skills, the schemes drastically change because he can do so many things.

I think there is a really good case to be made for Aaron Smith, but generally I believe the defense has enough good players and depth that it could lose one and still remain a top 10 defense. The offense is another matter, especially along the line which is the weak link already. Pick one (any offensive lineman) and I think it hurts the team worse than losing any of the defensive players, IMHO.

A. Smith, Hartwig and Skippy; take your pick on the order depending on the circumstances.

Top 10 is a term pussies use to legitimize their shitty teams.

Steelers don't settle for anything other than the #1 defense. That being said, without Aaron Smith, James Harrison, or the duo of Clark and Troy, I don't see us keeping that #1 spot.

seriously.

when 16 is average, top 10 doesn't mean anything.

First off, kiss my pussy.

I still believe that we could lose just about any starter on the defense and most likely still field one of the best defenses in the league (maybe not #1, but still one of the best). Lose one starting offensive lineman and the offense is going to struggle for a while until they start to gel. We've seen it in the past. I know we are not as good on defense without Smith, Taylor, Taz, Silverback, Hampton, Farrior, etc. but losing one of them would not be as drastic as losing someone on an offense that is not even ranked in the top 10 with all it's starters.

Based on last year? My vote would have been Mewelde Moore.
Selfless, ready to step in and did! Big time!
Do we get to home field advantage in playoffs without his efforts to relieve FWP?

Davis and Russell weren't gonna get it done and the idiocy of the 1-back offense means you need versatility and skill in many areas to keep the chains moving. Davenport...again? Please.
In this offense, even when ALL the 5 plays are working, you need a back who can at least give the linebackers a pause to think, "Gee, maybe they'll fool us from THIS run formation and pass in the flat to that there halfback right back there all by hisself. We KNOW they'll never do it from their other run formation."

My overall choice: The Warrior! #86.

The way our D fell apart two yrs ago when Smith went down its hard to argue...I gotta go with James Harrison though, just b/c of what the pass rush would be like if he went down
