Gay moved ahead of CB Deshea Townsend on the depth chart
John Harris, of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, reports Pittsburgh Steelers CB William Gay said he is focused on being in peak condition for the start of training camp. The team's starting left cornerback job is Gay's to lose, as he will replace CB Bryant McFadden, who signed as a free agent with the Arizona Cardinals. Gay has also moved ahead of CB Deshea Townsend on the depth chart. "Coach told us physical conditioning is what he's looking for when we come back (for training camp)," Gay said. "I want to be in top-notch shape, so I can go through the grind of the season."

Re: Gay moved ahead of CB Deshea Townsend on the depth chart
With James, Timmons and Woodley offering up blocking chaos on a regular basis, I see Wm Gay with 5 picks at least. He can catch. I'd say the same for "Stone Hands Taylor" but his coverage skills sends QB's to Gay's side.
I do believe "D" has better year than last if D-Line can hold up. Ziggy & Hoke will have a lot to say in that but Hoke is no spring chicken either.

I'd never count Townsend out, but if Gay is the #2, who is the #3?
Keiwan Ratliff is younger than Townsend and has experience.
Keenan Lewis is said to have looked good this spring.
Can Townsend hold off the youth movement at CB?

Yeah i can see Townsend as our #3 CB this year, he has the smarts and i belive the physical skills are still good enough for him to still play a role in our D.
But talk about an underrated guy. I think even us Steeler fans take for granted how many years Townsend has given us

Maybe, but I actually think it is kind of the opposite of taking him for granted.
I'm amazed the guy has played at the level he has been at for so long and am just wondering when he will hit the proverbial wall and the wheels will come off him in a big way.

He is one of those guys who just plays and plays. Never heard of him being injured, never caused a problem, just goes about being a pro. How many timely Int's has he hadover his career; I can remember Dallas and Pat's games where he took them to the house and turned games around. When he scores, he acts like he's already been there and he plans on coming back real soon, no goofball stuff. I enjoy his play.
I hope to see him in coaching when he's done. Just as with Rod, I would love to see these 2 as our D-Backfield coaches.
