Will Fast Willie Parker be fast again?

Scott Brown, of The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, reports Pittsburgh Steelers RB Willie Parker said he is getting his speed back to the level it was two or three years ago. "I'm faster than I've been," Parker said. Parker spends extra time after each workout running sprints and, at times, straps a sled with weights on it to his shoulders. Parker said his mindset is to get back to the things he used to do that made him a better player.

Head coach Mike Tomlin is noncommittal about how the team will use second-year RB Rashard Mendenhall this year. "I'm just simply asking him to have the savvy and awareness of a second-year player. How he plays will determine his role," Tomlin said.

Reading between the lines, "This sonovabitch has been a big disappointment to me. He can either shape up or ship out."

I like that Willie is running extra sprints and pulling the sled. It's that chip on his shoulder that's always given him his edge, and I'm glad it's not going away. Mendy, on the other hand, has huge things to prove -- mostly the fact that he's not soft and fragile.

Hope Mendy learns from what he is seeing in FWP. I agree, it has been that chip - "Willie Parker - Clinton H.S" intro he uses on MNF - that defines him. Good for him.

On the other hand, anyone agree that Mewelde Moore has been the biggest, best FA signing since Farrior?
I love this guy. I liked him when he was a Vike. He took some shots last year and just got up and performed,...BIG TIME. Very happy he has a ring. No problem if he is #2 back. Mendy needs to step up.

If Mendy doesn't change the way that he carries the ball then he's uncoachable.

they said harrison was uncoachable too, and he turned out OK  The only dislike I have about mendy is his ego. To me he has what most young guys have these days, which is what I like to call the Brady Quinn syndrome, where muscles and pretty boy smiles on the practice field are more important than actually playing well.

He needs to hang on to the ball AND toughen up!

Seems like a lot of folks here are pretty hard on Sweed/Mendy. Remember Tone his first year? He couldn't field a punt without fumbling it over to the opposition. I think Ward and FWP will help coach up Mendy/Sweed. If anything FWP is on the hot seat this year. With only one year left on his deal, if he doesn't perform/gets hurt again this year, Mendy could easily take the job with a modest year of around 700 - 800 yds rushing. As far as Sweed, his injury from college may be affecting his catching ability, but I have a feeling it's more mental. Hopefully, he will come around. We need a big WR down on the goal line, since we lack a power O-line.

I thought he did OK for a rook. What specifically is wrong with the way he carries the ball. Too low I guess causing too many fumbles?
