The Steelers signed three draft picks on Friday: CB Keenan Lewis, a third-round pick; CB Joe Burnett, a fifth-round pick; and RB Frank Summers, also a fifth-round pick. The club also released P Dirk Johnson.

The 6-foot, 202-pound Lewis, one of three third-round selections made by Pittsburgh, will compete for playing time on defense. He made 48 career starts at Oregon State and made seven interceptions.

Burnett, a star returner and cornerback at Central Florida, could make his biggest impact on special teams in his first season. Burnett returned three punts and two kickoffs for touchdowns in college.

Summers is competing to make the club as a short-yardage back. He scored 14 TDs in two seasons at UNLV.

Johnson signed with Pittsburgh on May 1. Daniel Sepulveda, who missed the 2008 season because of a knee injury, is slated to return as the Steelers' punter.

Off to a good start. Love the Tank! Get this guy ready to go! Lewis - love his size. Seems to have more maturity than Anthony Smith. I just don't worry about the DB's as much asduring the Chad Scott days. If only Ike could catch, we'd really have something going back there. I believe with Timmons in there and showing blitz, he makes everyone back there better. Quicker throws and QB misreads. I bet some of the "new wrinkles" they've talked about are LeBeau's "QB snack-packs" using Timmons & Woodley or Timmons & James.
With Pens in the House, let's get THIS party started!

training camp can not get here soon enough.

It will be interesting to see what Hood signs for. Rest of the picks will be 3-4 years at league min plus the appropriate signing bonus for the round.
