Dick LeBeau - greatest DC of all time?

Postby Nel » Sat Jun 06, 2009 8:50 am

According to President Obama:

“And there’s the new Steel Curtain—the NFL’s best defense last year, thanks to Dick LeBeau, who I think everybody acknowledges is one of the greatest defensive coordinators of all time.”—President Barrack Obama during introductory comments at the Super Bowl champs’ White House visit.

Hardly.

They won the SB despite him.

A pretty big collapse in that game if you asked me.

I'll agree he does not play, but that works both ways.

Let's give 'ole Dicky his due. He's a good one. Let's just not lather up his nutbag too much.

If they would have lost the SB, everyone would be calling for his ass.

I would not say the best ever but you can not compare between different era's in football.

Think what this defense could do if you could breathe on a WR without getting a flag.

The one thing you can say for LeBeau is that he gets the most out of his talent. Basically this defense is Harrison, Woodley, Troy, and about 12 other decent players that all fill the roles they need to perfectly.

Agree there! I do believe D will be better (w/softer schedule) because now Timmons must be accounted for. I see major havoc between he and Woodley, w/ Silverback doing his thing.

LeBeau gets the most out his talent, that is what great coaches do - they play fearlessly for him. Can't ask for more. Offense didn't do much to bail those guys out. Yeah, SB 2nd half was stuff of boneheads. Some had to do with the OC as well. Sure hope they went to school with that film.

LeBeau brings alot of new ideas and fresh looks. After 50+ years and still a chess match for him. I give a guy credit for that much intensity and energy to do that. Who out there would you rather have? Philly has a bunch of All-Pros. Tampa and Minn. have good DC's but they may have moved on.

It's our OC that I wish would move on!

With all the friggin' rules to protect the QB's & WR's, Lebeau is fabulous in my book. He utilizes his guys better than anyone else in the league & they always finish in the top 10 on D. Picking Lebeau apart because of the second half of SB 43 is like criticizing Michael Jordan for his average passing skills.

Like I said, had they lost the SB, everyone would be criticizing him and calling for his head. Lucky for him, BR7 and Tone bailed him out.
