Foote Released for Real this time

Postby thesteelhammer » Mon May 04, 2009 9:43 pm

In case you missed it today, The Pittsburgh Steelers have released LB Larry Foote.
For real this time.
I have never been a Foote fan, so I'm not upset to see him out of the starting line-up.
That said, he would have been nice depth to have.
I also had seeing a player demand his release and get it.
It's also sad to see our team get nothing in exchange for him, when he will clearly be an upgrade for many of the defenses in the league.
Unfortunatey the realty of the salary cap, is that he had to go to make space.
His number was just too big for a back up in a year we were close to the cap.

I'm sure Timmons will be good, let''s just hope he can stay heathy also. :suxfingers:

Foote saw the writing on the wall - Timmons is simply a better athlete & can make big plays (like the long INT vs NE). Foote basically played side-by-side w/ 2 pro-bowlers (Silverback & Farrior) & another potential one (Woodley). You coulda stuck a cardboard cutout of JoePa in that slot. Let's apply the $ they save to a UFA like Heath or Reed.

Good riddance :D Slow of Foote was a big liability. Timmons was robbed last year and should have been the starter.

I guess starting in 2 superbowl seasons on a 1st or 2nd best ranked defense, including being a stalwart against the run is a liability - particulalry from a 4th round draft pick.

It would have been nice if he would have agreed to restructure his contract and hung around as a backup. He would have been a quality back up if/when someone goes down. But, he elected not to restructure his contract so I hope the door doesn't hit him in the ass on the way out.
