Ziggy Hood
Wasn't really too aware of him before the draft, mostly because I didn't feel we would take him. Evidently he was a 4th-5th round prospect that overachieved at workouts and rose into the late first round.
He was a team leader at Missou and seems to be a solid pickup. He will add immediate depth to the D-Line and will hopefully be a starter for years to come. That is a great scenario for a late first round pick.
I noticed that he was projected to the Colts, among others, for his fit in a Tampa 2 system. He is better at splitting the O-Line than he is at holding the point of attack. Do you think Tomlin wants to continue his move to the Tampa 2? Timmons drew comparisons to Derrick Brooks, and Woodley basically is a DE.

Re: Ziggy Hood
For a D-lineman this guys sounds like a good fit. Sure he did not play in a 3-4 but all reports I have read are that he is extremely coachable and gives 110% on every play.
Time will tell if this was a good pick or not. However, he does not need to start day 1 and can give us immediate depth at the position.
The three 3rd round picks today should be interesting. Good chance for a OL, WR/return guy, and possible CB in this group.

Lets hope he can be a nickel package player, and not just a space eater. With his speed, he might just be the first to the ball quite a bit! It used to be said all the time, but not so much anymore the NFL is a copycat league. After watching what Baltimore has done with Ngata in coverage from zone blitz schemes, Hood looks like he is the prototype to succeed in that mold! As a fan of the Steelers you have to be pleased with this selection.
Re: Ziggy Hood
personally i can't wait to see how this team shapes up this year. rashard will be back, should have 2 new kick returners, a dependable punter, competition at the OL (which is sad because we drafted OL so late in the draft) and a new face on the DL that looks like he'll be fun to watch. Maybe ziggy will be the new kiesel project since he never really brokeout in that "rover" lineman role.

My gawd I hope Ziggy does better than Keisel. Batting down the occasional pass & being Ben's best buddy wouldn't justify a 1st round pick!!!

He faced double teams the last half of his college career and still produced. He's gonna be an awesome player because he's surrounded with great talent. I dont see how you can double team him now with Casey on one side and James Harrison on the other. He's gonna wreak havoc.

The more I hear about this kid, the more I like the pick. Did you know he was an academic all american at MIZZOU as well?
