Hartwig gave up more sacks than any center
Pittsburgh Steelers: Alex Mack, C, California
Sean Smith is an option here - I've had him going at this spot in the past few updates - but I really have trouble seeing Pittsburgh pass up on Alex Mack if he falls to them.
The Steelers need upgrades all over their offensive line, including the center position. Justin Hartwig surrendered more sacks (6.5) than any other center in the NFL in 2008.
Mack, arguably the best center prospect in 25 years, could continue the tradition of great centers in Pittsburgh, picking up where Mike Webster, Dermontti Dawson and Jeff Hartings left off. http://walterfootball.com/draft2009.php

I didn't realize that about Hartwig. That being the case, I'd be OK with them taking Mack, I guess. It would help shore up the line.

I read this as well, but find it hard to believe. If it's true, I say we take him at 1.32, even though I think he grades out as a second round pick (I know we're the last pick in the first). I still say we take Britton at 1.32 if he's there and trade up to get Mack in the second.

Re: Hartwig gave up more sacks than any center
They likely will not take Mack (or other C, G) with 1.32. They'll likely either go BPA or try and and move up / down.
You simply don't need a great C...good strong solid B player is adequate provided you go some talent around him. Why waste 1.32 on a center?

I dunno, why waste draft picks to get a punter, not named Ray Guy, a couple of years ago?
Re: Hartwig gave up more sacks than any center
I would use the same argument about a punter. Also, they did not take him in round 1.

No shit, Hartwig fucking sucks, been saying it forever. Fisher realized it and cut his fatass, it's laughable the Steelers picked him and up and made him the starter, but even funnier that he was the center of a Superbowl winning team.
Tells you how good that defense was.

Hartwig ain't great.
But he was good enough, and has the super bowl ring to prove it.
How many rings they got in Tennessee?
Talk about signing a free agent that sucks and making him a starter, Can You Say - NATE WASHINGTON.

Hartwig ain't no gem but he was a huge upgrade over Sean Mayhem. It's hard constantly put Pro-Bowl centers in a lineup ( Mike Webster, Dermonti Dawson, and Jeff Hartings ) year after year. The only thing that bothers me with Hartwig is he is inconsistent with his shotgun snaps. Other than that I think he can grow into the O-line, that is still young overall. Oh yeah, and enjoy Nate Washington, there Titans dude! He is a great athlete, but he's also wonderfully inconsistent, but you guys will learn that on your own (most likely in week 1 )

Very good, that's what I've been saying all along.

Come on Hammer, you know that Pitts won IN SPITE of him, he sucks. Terribly. Worst center in the NFL.
Jason Jones made him his bitch for 4 sacks, and he is licking his chops hoping he gets to line up across from him again this year.

Ha, um Nate is a pretty damn good receiver and there are a lot here that will agree with me. And also, Nate ain't gonna be a starter, but nice try

Really, when did you say that?

Point is the Steelers won & so did Hartwig

We'll see how you feel about Nate after he drops some easy ones.
Not a starter Really? PFW disagrees.

Three 2007 Titans draft picks — WRs Paul Williams and Chris Davis and RB Chris Henry — are under pressure to show more in their third NFL seasons. Of that trio, we hear Williams may have the best chance to contribute in the upcoming season because of the lack of established options behind starters Nate Washington and Justin Gage. Davis is the fall-back option as a kickoff and punt returner behind ex-Panther Mark Jones, and Henry is likely to again have problems getting carries behind Chris Johnson and LenDale White.
Maybe you shuld stop worrying about trade rumors involing the Steelers and focus on your own depth chart.

Re: Hartwig gave up more sacks than any center
My gawd is PATitan even worth listening to? The Titans gm meant NOTHING to the Stillers last yr. They had done their job by then. Besides, who would you want guiding your team? Ben, or a former Black-Jack swigging ex Penn St QB. Fisher has ZERO SB wins in 15 yrs & will go another 15 before he even gets a sniff. Pass out a Terrible Towel to LenWhale White when he wallows into Heinz, in Sept.

Clearly PATitan is bored with Titan sites and longs for the passion that the Black and Gold nation has
