I'm kind of torn

Postby lloydrules » Fri Apr 10, 2009 5:25 pm

If they take a OC in the first round, especially the guys who are solid leaders and can also play OG, in one way I'm ok with it since I am desperate for them to upgrade the OL and taking one of those guys would lead to that.

But on the other hand, history shows you can get top shelf centers in the 2nd and 3rd round, so maybe I'd prefer they either take an OT worthy of that spot (guy from CN) or a top DE or CB.

I guess I would be ok either way, as long as they aren't taking LB, punters and TEs when they still haven't address the OL. One more year of that and I will need to smack someone.

Taking Davis in the 3rd last year was kind of mind blowing. And, regrettably, Spaeth has kind of been the waste I predicted he would be. He's barely done a thing other than his little TD tear in the beginning of his rookie season.

I share your concerns.
I'm not sure we can get a quality OT in at 1/32
I'd like to see us move up to get a guy who could protect Ben's blind side for the next decade.

I view this years Steelers draft as an experiment. Either we'll move up and pick William Beatty/Eben Britton/Michael Oher/ or even or give it our all and pick up a Crabtree or a Maclin. There is alays the possibility of opting out of the first round completely, picking up much needed later rounders.

Picking 32 is virtually out of the first round. But if they could get something for it, I'd be OK with it. They seem committed to "BPA" almost to a fault (I'd argue it has been to a fault the last three seasons - should have drafted more OL picks). I think they will take whatever player they view as best for DL, OL and CB the first 3 rounds. I think reaching for Crabtree or Maclin would be a mistake, as we have real concerns on depth that need addressed. And rookie WR almost never product rookie year.
