If Pgh can win another ring this year.....
....won't they HAVE to considered every much as the "Pimps of the 2000s" as the Pats? They will have both won three rings. If they don't win it this year, NE will get the props as the best team of the decade, rightfully so.

I don't know lloyd. The steelers just don't get the street cred/media attention of other teams. The biggest difference that I see is Tom Brady vs Ben. Brady has the classic good looks, pretty smile, get the model pregnant thing going on. Ben would just as soon walk around in his camo deer-hunting cap and a flannel, b/c IMO, he honestly doesn't give a shit. My prediction is the following (barring any crazy injury scenarios):
Steelers and Pats will meet in the playoffs in '09, possibly in the title game. I've mentioned this before in other threads that I think this rivalry has turned in our favor. The Pats defense is old and their RB situation in uncertain. Our defense and offense are peaking (now that Ben is the de facto, without a doubt leader of the team), and I'm optimistic about Sweed/Mendenhall potential over the next few years.
So in conclusion, the Steelers can lay a claim to 'Pimps of the 2000's' if and only if we beat the Pats in a title game, and then win the SB. I'm optimistic about our chances, provided Ben can survive next year's pounding that he will surely have to endure.

I dunno. I'd have to call the Pats the front-runners at this point. They signed F. Taylor to help at RB and they signed a number of defensive players as well. Additionally, they've got 6 draft picks in the 1st 3 rounds, counting their comp pick...we've got 3.
Meanwhile, we've lost McFadden & Nate and have signed nobody.

Even if the Steelers win another ring this year, the Pats would still be the de facto team of the decade.
Head to Head, we'd be 3-3 for SB wins, but the Pats would still have 1+ SB appearance on us.
In addition, the Pats have owned us 2-0 in AFCC games, they had a perfect regular season under their belts, and set the longest regular season win streak at 22. We can't really touch that.
The only argument for the Steelers would be the Belicheat scandal, and our putting the end to the Pat's 22 game win steak.

Hell, I don't even count the Cowboys as the team of the '90s. Three rings -- all in the first half of the decade do not a "team of the decade" make.
Teams of the Decade:
60s -- GB -- 2 SBs plus a whole mess of championships
70s -- Stillers -- 4 SBs in Six years with eight or nine years in the hunt
80s -- 49ers -- 4 SBs spread over nine years, but always a power
90s -- Cryboys ruled for five years then went in the tank, Denver made the AFC relevant again late in the decade (Therefore one dynasty and no team of the decade)
00s -- Pats rule early, let's hope the Stillers close out the decade with SB#7 (Therefore no team of the decade, but potentially 2 dynasties)

Yeah, the Pats would have 1 more SB appearance and also that undefeated regular season and also a record 22 straight regular season wins at some point. Some people might also try to argue "well, if Brady doesn't get hurt PIT doesn't go in '08). Just saying.
Otherwise, if you count AFCC's and overall number of wins, I think that might favor PIT. And the 15-1 '05 with a rookie QB going 14-0 isn't that far off the Pats perfect season, IMO.
And I would settle this argument as such: The Pats cheated or PIT might very well have at least 1 more ring and NE probably has at least one or two less.

"The Pats cheated"

Should be enough to quell any doubts of a better team of the decade.
I'm sure Pats fans must hate the continued "cheating" bit, so it's everyone's job to remind them and never feel sorry for it.
"The Pats cheated"
The won 3 Super bowls...yeah, but they cheated.
They went undefeated for 22 staright games...yeah but the cheated.
The almost had a perfect season...yeah, but they cheated.
It may be a little unfair to ruin all that they have accomplished with the cheating but, if the organization had more class, this would not be an issue.

That is absolutely true.
Just because the Commish sweeps it under the rug, does not make it legal. And we must give this reminder everytime a positive adjective and the word patriots are in the same sentence.
And with that glorious note, this will be my last post in 8 weeks, because I ship out to serve my country tomorrow afternoon.
So, see you guys in the summer.

I'm kind of sick of this. It's akin to bitter fans saying the refs gave us win in 2005 and 2008 SBs. How many teams have stolen signals of opposing teams. Is that legal? Even if the Pats "cheated" it's enough already on repeating it over and over - don't be like the fans that we don't respect.
