what would you pay orlando pace? (if anything)

Postby steelmoney » Tue Mar 10, 2009 5:02 pm

Orlando Pace - T - Rams

Rams released LT Orlando Pace.

The Rams tried trading Big O, but at 33 with three base salaries totaling $21.53M left on his contract, they found no takers. A seven-time Pro Bowler and three-time All Pro, Pace is sure to find work elsewhere, quite possibly as a starter. The Eagles, Bengals, Steelers, Packers, Bears, and Raiders can all use blindside help. The move significantly increases the chances of St. Louis using the No. 2 overall pick on a tackle.

It would have to depend a lot on a physical. That said if he was healthy he would probably be over our budget. I like him as I would imagin most people would, but I don't know how much he has left.

unless he has sever physical limitations do to injuries , he would beat out both colon and starks which is fucked up when ya think about it!

If they bring pace to camp, by the end of the first week starks will be taking snaps with the 2nd team....

If they can get him in here for 3 to 4 million and load the contract with incentives, do it if he passes the physical...

He is a 7 time pro bowler and only 33 yrs old, so if somewhat healthy, you are not getting him for less then 3-4 million with alot of incentives..

The sad thing is pace would instantly be our best linemen the second he inks a contract...

If healthy, I'd pay him top 10 OT money.

He hasn't been able to stay healthy. I'd rather sign or draft a guy who is much more likely to be in one piece.

This topic appears to have been covered. Evaluate the physical to decide whether Pace is/can hold up. If the answer is yes then he would get paid like a top 10 player at his position. Damn Steel Holiday; go to the head of the class.

That's not the whole story. don't rush to the head of class. You can pass a physical after months of not playing football, but if you a worn down, you will get hurt again as soon as the contact starts back up. See Marvel Smith for an example. I am sure he is healthy right now, but once he plays some football he will hurt his back again, even though he might check out fine.

Get it? Pace is at that point. Used up. Move on.

I think it's too risky. We've had our share of injured O-lineman the last few years. Thanks to Ben, we were still able to win a SB. Let's rebuild the line through the draft...
Who knows, maybe Tony Hills will actually pan out...

Well the bidding for him just got lower ow that Dan Snider's skins say they aren't interested.

David Elfin, of The Washington Times, reports Washington Redskins executive vice president Vinny Cerrato said the Redskins are not interested in unrestricted free-agent OT Orlando Pace (Rams).

Looks like the bears are out too

Vaughn McClure, of the Chicago Tribune, reports the Chicago Bears will likely not pursue free-agent OT Orlando Pace (Rams). The team is planning to start OT Chris Williams at left tackle.

and the Niners
Matt Maiocco, of The Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports the San Francisco 49ers are not showing any interest in unrestricted free-agent OT Orlando Pace (Rams) at this time.

Cutting pace freed up $6 million under the salary cap.
He is 33-years-old, but he has played in 158 career games for the Rams with 154 starts since being selected with the No. 1 overall pick.

Pace has been hampered by assorted injuries the last three seasons, missing two games and part of a third this past season due to knee injuries. The previous two seasons combined, he was able to play in only nine games.

Bottom line: He started 14 games last season.

Raiders interestd in Pace...AS A BACK UP.
Wow, he must not be healthy.

http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/NFL/AFC/AFC+West/Oakland/WWHI/2009/wwhi031209.htm

We hear the Raiders do have interest in OT Orlando Pace, who was released by the Rams March 10, and will at the very least give his agent a call to find out if the feeling is mutual. The main question that may have to be resolved is whether Pace, 33, would be willing to join the team as a backup. League evaluators aren’t convinced that Mario Henderson is the answer at left tackle, but Raiders head coach Tom Cable liked what he saw from him in a brief starting stint at the position late last season and appears confident that Henderson can handle the job of protecting QB JaMarcus Russell’s blind side full time next season. Oakland is badly in need of depth at tackle and would welcome Pace to the mix, at the right price. His role would be to push and mentor Henderson, and if Henderson should take any steps backward, Pace could slide into the starting spot. Al Davis has long been a fan of Pace’s and traded up in the 1997 draft in an effort to draft him, before the Rams plucked him with the first overall pick.

ha the Raiders. Fuk the Raiders. Those pirates will sign him and somehow blow a chance to develop a good young player. :supimpin: Hard to believe nobody else would have this guy. I don't watch Rams games, and wouldn't say if I did, but Alex Barron sucks. Fans just don't like the guy because he is boner after boner. Nobody has had bad things to say about Pace, though. He may have been on a bad team, but at least he was getting paid.

Not much left in the tank IMHO.

I'd give Pace vet min with incentives (unlimited trips to Golden Corrall).

Tom Curran, of NBCSports.com, reports the Baltimore Ravens are expected to meet with free-agent OT Orlando Pace (Rams) Wednesday, March 18.
