WR free agents

Postby lloydrules » Mon Mar 09, 2009 4:18 pm

Upon the news that Galloway would be visiting (I still say no chance they sign him) I looked at who else was out there at WR. There are plenty of dudes I'd sign instead of him.

I'm not intimate with the status of all these guys but some got to be decent signings to consider.

Reggie Williams, top 10 pick of Jags? Mostly been disappointment but he came on in 2007, entire team sucked in 2008. He is a big target. He has made some spectacular grabs, and also some bad drops. One of his problems has been he thought he could just show up and excel without major effort and endless riches would be his. That's no longer a given and he would come in with a more serious attitude. Would he not make a decent #3?

Drew Bennett. This guy was a play maker. He can't be that old. Again, not a good #3 guy? He can get deep.

Ronald Curry. This guy has made splashes on the TV screen on a very bad Oakland team. This guy is big and fast and would be cheap. Only worry is that the culture of being on the Raiders may have ruined him. I think he could do big things with Ben throwing him the rock.

Darrell Jackson

Ashley Lelie

Not great, but both could be as good or better than Nate.

Jerry Porter - was hurt and sucked all year in Jax, but if there was a lingering injury that could explain why and he was now healthy, he could be a nice #3. _IF_......

There are some interesting names on the list. However, Williams might be worth a look. Thought I heard he was a bit of a head case in JaX.

Drew Bennett could be interesting.

However, Jackson and Lelie are not worth the effort in my opinion. I think Sweed beats any of them out for the #3 job. Not bad thought to have someone push him but these guys do not get it done in my opinion.

What about Kelley Washington - former Bengal, then Pat. Great special teams player and probably average receiver

Williams has been a big bust in Jax. But again, he did have a break out 2007 with 11 TDs, IIRC. His main problem is he thought he could just show up and succeed. A motivated Reggie could be decent. Bottom line, there are plenty of decent players on that list to compete with Sweed or be out #4 and provide depth. Will the Steelers actually sign any of them? Don't hold your breath. Rooneys hate spending signing bonuses

Didn't Williams just get arrested or the like?

I think so - for DWI and weed? Not the biggest deal in the world. He was drinking and had a small amount of weed. I think someone might get a bargain with this guy
