Colbert asleep as McFadden remains a UFA

Postby StillMill » Tue Mar 03, 2009 1:25 pm

McFadd is in AZ visiting the Cards.

The Cardinals are only expected to offer McFadden a contract worth $3-4 million annually.

Domonique Foxworth and Ronald Bartell got about $7M a year. McFadden is eassily just as good, but missing six games last year may hurt his leverage.

Hey Colbert -- wake up !! If $4M per year will retain McFadden -- DO IT. That amount is chickenfeed for a high caliber, starting CB in this league.

The Skins giving Fat Albert Haynesworth that $100M+ contract was stone stupid. Giving McFadd $4M per is sound business. Get to it, Colbert.....then you can go back to watching re-runs of old Lions games....

...speaking of Detroit...is Colbert going to honor Foote's wishes to be traded there? Such a move could free up some cap space for McFadden. I'm guessing Colbert too busy haggling with Harrison to negotiate with McFadden. Could it be Rosenhaus that is the problem?

I was also thinking that AZ probably offers Mcfad a sole starter position. Something the steeler coaching staff won't offer. Perhaps Mcfad takes AZ even with matching offers.
I agree with Still Mill - 4 mill is worth it. 4.5 is worth it.

I dunno, only one team invited him in and no offers, maybe we are over rating bmac and the stillers mite not think he's more then a very god 3rd corner.

corners are usually snached up by now if thier considered even slightly above avg..

the ravens cut mcallister, rlle wants out and they dont even look into mcfadden after seeing him 2x a yr for the last 4 yrs?

jets pay an old lito shepperd instead of a young corner theyt can have for the next 7 yrs after ryan sees bmac 2x a yr?

I hope the stillers get him back, but it does show you what the rest of the leage thinks of him..

...that McFadden is a Polamalu-dependent CB who needs a great safety?

I likened the Mcfad situation to Chris Hope on another thread - but what I didn't add there is that after we let Chris Hope go we drafted another safety to take his place. I think we all remember that was Anthony Smith. Given that situation, I would rather the steelers hang on to Mcfad versus gambling on a 2nd or 3rd round pick in the draft, particularly when we could use OL and DL there. Sure that draft CB could be very good, or at least as good as Mcfad we think may be - but I don't like that gamble. Too many bad corners circulating in the league.

Good point on Ryan not going after Mcfadden - may say something. That entire secondary may be Polamalu dependent to a degree but they do provide some great coverage sacks.

B-Mac is underrated. He can cover AND play the rush well. I mean, he rarely ever gets beat and if they do complete a pass on him it is usually just barely. He was great at FSU. He is a keeper. I don't know what they are thinking. Townsend is done. Ike is solid, but what about the other side, plus nickle and dime. They need B-Mack

...agreed. This guy is a consistent shutdown corner who has improved every year. If we can sign Kemo to a deal we should pony up some $$$ for BMac. William Gay has played well for a fifth-round pick, but he's not ready for prime time IMHO...

Saints just inked Greer - wonder if BMac is asking too much...

Saints sign cornerback Greer

METAIRIE, La. (AP) -- The New Orleans Saints signed free-agent cornerback Jabari Greer to a four-year deal Wednesday.

The 27-year-old Greer, 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds, spent the past five years with the Buffalo Bills, starting 23 games over the past two seasons.

Greer has four career interceptions, including two last season that he returned for touchdowns. He missed the final six games last season because of a knee injury

I fear I am going to read Mcfadden signed by cardinals each time I see that someone posted a new line on this thread. I can wipe my brow again.

Cardinals | Graves to contact McFadden's agent
Thu, 05 Mar 2009 13:22:05 -0800

Kent Somers, of The Arizona Republic, reports Arizona Cardinals general manager Rod Graves said during a radio interview that he plans to talk with Drew Rosenhaus, the agent for unrestricted free-agent CB Bryant McFadden (Steelers), about a possible contract.

It'll surely be interesting to see what sort of offer Fad (finally) receives and whether or not the Stillers FO will want to match it (or come close--home team discount for staying with a proven winner vs. a one-year wonder).

Ding Ding ding! I beleive we have a winner!

Most teams view the Steelers CB's as products of the system. The beleive that the intense pass rush schemes make the corners better than the actually are.

I'm not completely buying that because of the frequent "coverage" sacks that were had last season. Yes, LeBeau's defense can buy a corner a second due to the confusing nature of who is rushing and who is not. However, the croners still need to hold up their end of the bargain which Bmac, Ike, Gay and Townsend did quite well last year.

All corners perform better with a pass rush in front of them...Per Schefter...Dolphins could be interested in McFadden after losing Andre Goodman to Broncos at an astouding $25 mil for 5 years. I'm no Goodman expert...but surely the NFL brass doesn't feel he's more talented than McFadden. Rosenhaus must've overestimated McFadden's value on the FA market by a wide margin.

It's about time the rest of the league stops embarrassing themselves by paying heaping stacks of money to Steelers 2nd round picks who were very solid because of the team around them as much as for their own ability. :suplusone: Randle El's and Kendrell Bell's are a skill set that the Steelers know how to get the most out of. They more than likely are not what other teams can use for the $ they give.
