The plans are that he was a wasted draft pick and shouldn't have even made the 53-man roster b/c there was no chance that he could actually play on any NFL level at all. He only made it b/c they didn't want to admit how poorly they have taken care of the OL in these drafts. If we have ANY QB other than Ben we don't win a ring this year
Re: Tony Hills
The guy was hurt his senior year....nobody outside the Steelers knows the severity. Call Hills' rookie year a redshirt. If he proves he can't play in preseason you cut him. Its a 4th round pick nothing to lose sleep over. That being said Colbert has had his share of misses along the OL. Marvel and the FA signing of Hartings about the best I can think of during his tenure.

Yeah. I don't think we can count on Hills to be ready to even fill in as a backup this year. Given our low position in the draft, I wouldn't be surprised if we tried to pick up someone on the FA market as a stopgap measure, considering we let go of Kendall/Marvel.

Hills is awful. He wouldn't have made the team if they weren't red faced over the fact that they shit their pants so badly re: the OL the last 4 years. They didn't want to admit Hills was horrid as well. Did you see him play? He was ficking horrible. No way was he worthy of making the team

I'm not disagreeing with you, but what are you basing this on? Did you see enough of him in preseason last year, or something else?

That's what I don't get...how does anybody bash Hills when NONE of you have seen him get meaningful playing time. Same goes for Bruce Davis. With Hills at least he has an injury excuse. Speaking of drafting injured UT players, at least with Sweed you can see him drop pass after pass on the field of play. You even have Ed Bouchette on his chats answer the same way every time he was asked about sweed..."He practices EXACTLY likes he plays."

Re: Tony Hills
Prognosis? Fabber, are you a doctor or do you just try to sound like one on Steeler message boards? Currently it would be asinine to diagnose Hills... If you are interested in my opinion though here it is: Watch to see what Pgh does with Starks. If he is signed to a long term deal say 5-6 years at 7-8 mil per 20mil guarantee, then Hills will likely be a backup his entire career in steel town. Exact figures on the Starks deal are not important, believe me he would be paid well. What is important is that Hills is a left tackle only IMO, and such a deal for Starks would likely leave him on the left side. Tony was a TE in high school and developed into an athletic blindside protector in college. Hills looks to me like a guy who could block speed rushers and 3-4 bandits very well. I do not expect him to dominate in man up situations against 3-4 defensive ends. At this point Tony Hills will get bigger and stronger, play out his contract as a back up, and then leave via free agency to a team like Denver. If he can stay healthy, he will be a solid pro for a handful of years.
Re: Tony Hills
Here's the thing about Hills...he's a 4th round pick...Colbert took a shot on an injured player with potential. This will be the year he either shows something in camp or he gets cut. It truly is the off-season when posters are debating the importance of a 4th round pick who was not fully recovered from injury his rookie year. Colbert is not done yet with the OL. Starks is on board for next season only so far and Colon was tendered and could be a Steeler just one more season. Colbert will take at least one OT and one interior lineman in the first 3 rounds of the draft. I think with Keisel in his last year and Fat Casey...well fat...Steelers will also draft one DE and one DT in the draft as well. Hopefully with the Steelers newly reported 5yr contract offer to McFadden (still a longshot to sign) the Steelers can ignore the corner position early on and focus on replenishing the lines.
