kenDoll released

Postby steelmoney » Thu Feb 26, 2009 6:05 pm

The Steelers today released starting guard Kendall Simmons, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Simmons had an Achilles tendon torn in the fourth game of last season and was placed on injured reserve and did not play again.

He was their first-round draft choice in 2002 and became their starting right guard as a rookie. He remained their starter except when he spent 2004 on injured reserve and until his injury last season.

They also released linebacker Mike Humpal, a sixth-round draft choice last year. Humpal was on injured reserve with a neck injury.

ABOUT FREEKING TIME!

Good rookie year for Simmons, then career in toilet when diabetes struck.
Dumb asses even extended him once.

Cutting Simmons ensures we take O-line on day one of the draft.

Wow. Good move. We're likely to have either 1 new starting OG and one new OT next season or else they'll move Colon inside to RG and replace him at RT and Kemo at LG.

Starks
Draft or FA
Hartwig
Colon

THis must mean we resign Kemo or latch onto Jeff Saturday.

Either one of these two guys starts for us next year at guard unless some other quality free agent guard is out there that I don't know about.

Nevermind - Saturday signed a 3-year deal with the Colts because the cap was moved to 127 million from the projected 123 million. Of course, this gives the Steelers 4 million extra under the cap this year as well.

We were at 19 million so that makes 23 million. Factor in the Starks' franchise and the tenders and the Steelers are still probably 10 million or so under. If we sign Starks to a milt-year deal, his cap hit should be far less this year. So, James Harrison shouldn't have any problems now being signed and we should have plenty of cash to get a quality guard or tackle in free agency. We'll probably draft a guard/center so these are some of the quality tackles:
Stacy Andrews
Khalif Barnes
Tra Thomas

Then again, Wille the Colon could be penciled in as the RT next year... It will be interesting to see what the line looks like - it will be different no matter what happens.

I wonder how much new "Dead money" we added with the release of Kendoll.

I heard we just signed Kemo... Is this factored into the 7.5 million?

This is the best news since the Super Bowl win. Thank GOD they finally made the right decision with this total bum.
