Trouble in Harrison contract talks & other contract updates
Ed Bouchette, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports the Pittsburgh Steelers and the agent for LB James Harrison continue to talk about a contract extension but the possibility of no salary cap in 2010 is complicating the discussion. The rules during an uncapped year would be a player's base salary can only increase by 30 percent each year based on their 2009 base salary and no contracts can be more than five years in length. "We're trying to work through some numbers; it's so difficult without this collective bargaining agreement because the rules are much, much, much different," said Bill Parise, Harrison's agent. "We're trying to accomplish something here and we have a very restrictive environment to work in. ... We're not adversaries; we're trying to work to get this thing resolved."
Ed Bouchette, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports the Pittsburgh Steelers continue to negotiate with Ken Vierra, agent for Steelers impending free-agent OG Chris Kemoeatu. Vierra expects talks to heat up in the next day or two.
Ed Bouchette, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports Ken Zuckerman, agent for Pittsburgh Steelers impending free-agent OT Marvel Smith, said the Steelers have not contacted him about discussing a new contract.

Re: Trouble in Harrison contract talks & other contract updates
Thank you for the update.
I am hopeful An extension for Harrison will get done, but this pause in negotiations will probably allow us to seriously consider an OLB, if a premiere player should fall at #32.
I'm not surprised at the decision to move forward from Marvel..real good player for awhile but he is no longer reliable due to chronic neck and back ailments. Marvel will be missed..but we move forward.

More on this
Was thinking, sometimes agents seem to leak these stories as a tactic. We'll see.
James Walker, of ESPN.com, reports the Pittsburgh Steelers contract talks with LB James Harrison have hit a snag. Both sides have discussed a deal in the range of five to six years, but they remain far apart monetarily and how it should be distributed.

I am interested in whether marvel would take a back up role and the coin that comes with it. give his body more rest due to sitting on gameday.
also intersted in what numbers the agent and stillers are talking in general.

That is a positive spin that may come true. Other teams will likely pass on the chronically IR'd Smith in which case he may come to the Stelers with lowered salary expectations
