Hayden's new deal w/ Colts likely ruins chance to sign McFad

5 years, $43M.
Hayden is a nice CB, but hardly Rod Woodson or Mikey Haynes. McFadden is, at the very least, as good as Hayden and very arguably better.
McFadden's agent will be salivating. The franchise tag likely would have been better used on BMac than Starks.
with this Hayden deal, combined with the corner that Colbert has painted himself into with like 10 of his own O-linemen, I just don't see how we can possibly sign BMac to a deal.
Gay had better start preparing to seize the starting chores.

Luckily for us there are a lot of quality FA corners if McFadden decides to go...

I dont think McFadden is worth top 5 money. Dont get me wrong he's good, but Colbert had to use the tag on Starks.

Compounding this problem is the fact that Larry Fitz made Ike look like Charred Scott
at money time in SBXLIII. BMac, IMHO, is a better corner than Taylor.

I suppose it is out of the question for him to play one more season in the Burgh at a bargain price to boost his stock. Next off-season he could possibly get 35mil guaranteed. We all know how these contracts just go through the roof year after year. If he is only receiving offers of 22mil guaranteed for lack of starting experience, he should consider staying to win another championship.

I surely did not like the way Colbert was speaking about signing Mcfad in the most recent post-gazette article. too much language of its hard to keep a team together, and it only takes one team to take him away. All very true but those comments give the feel of giving up before the fight begins.

That is because they have essentially given up on signing Bmac. Let's look at the facts. Limited amount of cap space with a need to sign Silverback, a 3rd WR (unless Sweed steps up), Interior OL, LT and some special team depth players (I.E Keyarn Fox types).
The oline was horrible and needs help. There is little chance of a repeat with that group. Plus, the $100mm QB needs protected lest he get some Brady treatment. Silverback is a fucking beast that deserves a contract. And most notably, Bmac was out for several weeks and noone really noticed. Then he was sharing time with Gay.
Yes, Bmac is a solid CB and I would love to see him come back, but there are other more pressing needs for this team to repeat. CB will be taken care of via the draft.

I think we can be ok with Gay back there...but we definitely need to be developing some young talent...with all our needs for youth (and talent) on the O-line and D-line...I am not sure if they will be able to grab an effective dback...this year is the best their secondary has looked in a long time...I hope they find a way to plug the holes effectively.

I like Mcfadden, but I think the cost will be too high. This is a deep draft for CB, so as much as we need OL help look for a CB by the 2nd round.

Some of us appear way off on this situation . It must be the case that BMac isn't considered a top quality starter at CB. Could be that some teams are looking at him as a safety. He is a wicked hitter.
Re: Hayden's new deal w/ Colts likely ruins chance to sign McFad
They clearly are confident that Gay has the ability to step in. It would be nice to keep McFadden, but you can't keep everybody.
Gay will step in this year, and they'll draft a corner too.
