Sad News

Postby BigE » Thu Feb 19, 2009 4:20 pm

I read the troubling news the other day in the post-gazette that Tomlin is keeping his coaching staff intact for yet another year. That means another season of the bullshit, boring, predictable, dull, lethargic play calling of one Bruce Arians. I still hold the notion that the Steelers won the Super Bowl inspite of this lame, dumbfuck of a coach. Superbowl or not, this idiot should have been fired. The Steelers have enough talent to be at the top of the league offensively (however, they must revamp the putrid O-Line), not one of the most lethargic.

true, but I would argue two points:

1) Ben knows the offense well enough to where he can comfortably call his own plays/audibles whenever he wants
2) Ben improvises so much that half the time it doesn't matter what play gets called...he's going to do what he wants.

Bottom line is that Ben is in charge of the offense, not Bruce. The fact that Ben pulled off a nerves-of-steel drive in the final 2 minutes of the SB only solidified his position as leader of the offense, and the entire team.

But Ben isn't in charge of the offense when the play is "run parker up the middle". that's the problem.

except that he is. part of the ability to call an audible is the ability to call "run parker up the middle". If I'm not mistaken, it was ben's play call to run that god awful QB draw in red zone during the super bowl. I'm not arians fan, but I think he gets a lot of shit for some of the dumb plays that ben calls from the line.
