Extension for Tomlin?

Postby thesteelhammer » Fri Feb 13, 2009 9:58 pm

Ed Bouchette, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports the Pittsburgh Steelers likely will sign head coach Mike Tomlin to a contract extension at some point this offseason based on the team's history of extending their coaches. Tomlin has two years left on his current contract.

Thoughts?

I didn't realize his contract was only 4 years. Makes sense I guess.

Just good business sense. They are very well positioned to make another run and the price will go up dramatically if they repeat.

My guess is that they will come to an agreement on an extension. With Cowher they always did it with two years left until the last one. My guess is his salary will jump from the 2 or 2.5 mil this year to about 4-4.5/yr with a 5 year deal.

Why the hell not? He wins a ring in his 2nd year, inheriting a team that was only 8-8? What else does he have to prove? sign him for 5 more. Not even a question.
