Hmm I'd figure Holmes would at least been under the considered category since he was SB MVP and all.

my pick woulda been roethlisberger. if you want tough-as-nails, hard hat kind of play, it's playing with defenders in your face the entire game like ben did, he had almost zero time to throw the ball everytime he dropped back, and he had to evade getting hit like freakin barry sanders back there.

though harrison did make a huge 14-point momentum-swinging play which could have easily landed the MVP trophy if it wasn't all santonio (cept for nate washington one play) for that entire winning drive. woodley also for his 4th game in a row with 2+ sacks extending the postseason record, and his final sack was the nail in the coffin for arizona.

Mill picks the SB win as the one time to be wayyyy off with the hard hat. You mention Miller who had an awful putrid drop but don't mention Holmes? Timmons was okay, but Farrior was much better.

HH should be split by Harrison and Holmes.

Uh, sorry, Tony. Farrior was almost INVISIBLE during the game, doing very, very little. Yes, he stopped some plunges from the very worst running attack in the NFL. Quick -- offer this guy an extension with big bucks!!

Please WATCH the tape of the game. Timmons was a beast, constantly delivering HARD, SHARP, ear-popping hits on receivers after the catch.

As for Holmes, he ruined his chance for THIS award, by foolishly preening and walking AWAY from the LOS after the 40-yard gainer, and then adding salt to the wound (no pun intended) when he used the football as a prop (a salt shaker) after his late TD. Had the refs seen this, this would have been au AUTOMATIC 15-yard flag and AZ would have started their final march around their own 42 yard line. The Committee doesn't give out this coveted award for this kind of selfish juvenility.

From what I saw, Farrior was cleaning up Foote's mess and over-pursuit all game. It doesn't matter how you tackle, it matters if you make the tackle. Farrior has been awful at times this year as pointed out by Mill but I think he had a very good SB.

The Tonio flag wouldn't have changed anything, it was dumb but I think his tough play counteracts the foolish celebration.

either way, SB XLIII champs :subngtowl:

I believe Holmes was doing his version of the LeBron James "talcum powder toss," a move which James borrowed from Michael Jordan.

I'd have a hard time NOT feeling like Jordan if I'd just made the catch that 'Tonio made.

That said, if GW catch in a Super Bowl (with several other great grabs besides) is not enough to merit consideration by the committee, nothing is.

Sorry, 2 totally different awards with 2 totally different sets of criteria.

The Hard Hat Award was never intended to be an "MVP" or "Most Outstanding Player" (using NCAA verbiage) kind of award.

It has always been intended to recognize tough, hard-nosed, gritty, ferocious play.

Thus, a WR preening and sauntering 30 feet from the LOS after a catch -- thereby WASTING precious time with less than 1:00 on the clock and the team BEHIND on the scoreboard -- followed by the WR doing a juvenile act with the football that SHOULD have resulted in an enormous 15-yard flag, hardly warrants consideration for THIS award. He got his MVP award, which should have been split with Benji anyway, but he wasn't the recipient for the coveted Hard Hat. If he learns, he'll certainly compete for a Hard Hat next season.

Woodley....Definitely!

Harrison was outstanding...but you could not help notice him...

Woodley barely was mentioned by announcers...but was sure noticed by the Cards

and Steeler fans who like that relentless pressure he brought!

I think Ben, with no pun to Woodley or Silverback who were their usual dominating selves, deserves this one the most. That awesome final drive, with the pressure of delivering on the biggest stage there is, with such a clutch performance to bring home the winning score, is what what Hard Hat Award football is all about, at least in my mind. He had a great game overall, but The Drive is the stuff legends are made of.

WE GOT THE SIX PACK!!!! :celebrate: Really looking forward for the possibility of two or three more in the next five years...

I'll drink to that

HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO!!! SUPER BOWL CHAMPS ONCE AGAIN!!

Others receiving consideration by The Committee were QB Ben Roethlisberger, who constantly hung tough in the pocket and made one clutch play after another;

He did. 8-)
