McFadden a priority.

Postby thesteelhammer » Thu Feb 05, 2009 10:26 pm

Don Banks, of SI.com, reports the Pittsburgh Steelers likely will make re-signing impending free-agent CB Bryant McFadden a priority this offseason.

Sounds like a good plan. Let's see if Colbert can get it done.

IT makes you wonder what Colbert is thinking though. Extending Farrior mid-season to a fat contract was shocking. I'm not sure how he rates players, but I hope he gets plenty of input from Tomlin. And now that Tomlin is a Super Bowl winning coach, I sure hope he is more adamant about who stays and who goes.

Having said all that, McFadden is a no brainer and so is extending Harrison so that could mean some cuts in other places including Nate in your other post. Then again, teh Steelers can tag McFadden as exclusive rights as well.

Does anyone have a link to who the Steeler free-agents are?

Nevermind - Unrestricted FAs:
Starks
Bryant McFadden - damn not restricted
Marvel Smith
Nate Washington
Chris Kemoeatu
Trai Essex
Charlie Batch
Byron Leftwich
Keyaron Fox
Andre Frazier
Orpheus Roye
Mitch Berger
Fernando Bryant

We are 19 million under the cap, but we have plenty of players to sign.

Not only do we have to worry about our free agents.. we have a history of tending to players who have 1 year remaining on their contract as well. Colbert and the Rooney's have done very well regarding this, and I have 200% faith in these guys. This is why we are the best organization in football, along with many other things.

We will make the right decisions. (Even though back in '96 we should have kept Brown over Lloyd AT THE TIME, but that's just me.)

Young, starting corners clean up in FA, especially those with 2 Super Bowls on their resume. Steelers may have to pay more than they're willing to keep Mc and even use something Colbert doesn't seem to know exists and apply franchise tag. Hopefully transition will be just as effective. Get this done Colbert!!! Mc is highly necessary if Steelers hope to repeat. He and IKE quality tandem. Gay and Town good depth.

Seems that slapping some kind of tag on McFadden makes great sense. Pitt is not the only team who will value his services.;) If another franchise really likes him, then the Steelers could potentially acquire more draft choices.

Most likely if Fadd gets tagged then he will play in the Burgh next season. That would be a great thing. He would raise his own stock with an injury free season, and give Pgh one of the most talented and deepest group of secondary guys in the league.

I have already conceded that McFadden is as good as gone.

While I hope that I am wrong, my mindset is that he definitely signs elsewhere.

I hope they sign McFadden, but I doubt they will...i imagine we will have to see Gay step it up for the entire season...plus whoever they can get behind him...but maybe they'll surprise me...it is a shame to lose McFadden so shortly after he finally came into his own. We waited so long to see him be able to play the way he has the last year and a half or so of healthy play he has provided us...

it always amazes me when someone wants to leave the steelers for a few extra bucks.

Forget about Asomugha. The Raiders are franchising him.

or Dunta Robinson..he is better than B-Mac and after a slow start to his NFL Career he may not cost all that much.. He is a VERY physical corner...PERFECT fit for Steelers D Baby!
