Who would you extend?

Postby McLovin » Thu Feb 05, 2009 3:19 pm

In PG today Douchette named possible players with one year left on their deals looking for extension:

Harrison: McLovin feels he's the only sure thing for extension
Keisel: Hurt a lot would not extend
Clark: His hit on McGayhee aside he's not core player
Foote: Enjoy Detroit
Townsend: Nope
Hampton: Give him a RoethlisBurger and send him on his way
Reed: Clutch Kicker but McLovin doesn't want any real cash tied up in a kicker
Miller: Tough call...talented TE but underutilized is he worth the top 5 $$ he would command?
Ward: Very Tough call...the face of the team but play declining...dropping some balls of late
Colon: Sure, extend him so we can watch him get another dozen false start penalties

Harrison and Miller: Yes
Reed and Ward: Yes, DEFINITELY.

<-- Look

Do you want him doing that to our defenders?

No bigger fan of Hines than McLovin' BUT after next year he'll have 12 yrs in the league. He's rumored to be having knee surgery this off-season. That's a long time to play the physical style that Hines does. If he'll come cheap by all means keep him. Could not imagine Hines on another team but there are other core players to think about long term like Holmes and Woodley etc.

agree on all except i would try to keep townsend if possible for another year or two. he's not starter material anymore but i dont think there's any dime/nickel backs i'd rather have in there

I extend Reed (he's not going to cost too much)
Silverback (dude is a beast)
Ward (ask him to restructure contract, cap hit in 09 is 8.5!!!!)
McFadden (if the price is right, if not, extend Deshea he wil not get huge $$)
Clark - Very underrated, he plays very smart and allows Troy to freelance. I wouldn't give him top 5 money, but he has proven his worth. Remember how poor the D plays without him.

If the price is right:
Miller - Not worth Gonzalez money in a system that doesn't throw to the TE
Hampton - Snack is slowing down
Kiesel - I like his motor, but he may be a cap casualty
Colon - I know you hate his guts, but he is better that Essex and is an insurance policy unless we pickup a big FA or get a draft day steal. Otherwise, do you rely on Tony Hills or Jason Capizzi?

I think Hines will restructure.
I think Silverback's contract situation will get MESSY.
I think Clark is more of a core player than you think. (Troy loves playing with him and that is HUGE)
Foote-- Gone
Deshea-- Old but would be nice to have around for the right price
Casey- Gotta have someone to replace him and i dunno if Hoke can do it
Reed--Ehhh he's clutch depends on the $$$$$
Miller--Big Money is the man....this one could be messy like Silverback.
Keisel--I think he is easily replaceable
Colon--Please get the fuck outta Pittsburgh

Uncle D I think you are closest. Some of the older players future with the Burgh will depend on their willingness to restructure. Then some of the younger players like HEEEEAAATTHHH, are in their prime and it will be more on the FO to be flexible. So I think they will make sure and keep Heath Silverback and Reed. Then they will try to talk with Casey Deshea and yes, Hinesy, asking them to stay but restructed. The weird ones are Keisel Clark and Colon. You cant lose both Keisel AND Casey, especially since I believe Aaron Smith is quickly losing his effectiveness. Dick Lebeau will stay so they will keep the 3-4. Clark can be had and Colon wont cost nothing.

Larry Foote will not be around

Harrison, Steelers talk about new contract
Posted: February 5th, 2009 | NFL.com Staff | Tags: James Harrison, Pittsburgh Steelers

Steelers LB James Harrison made arguably the biggest play in Super Bowl XLIII to follow up winning the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. Now comes the contract renegotiation.

Harrison has one year left on his current deal, but his agent, Bill Parise, told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he already has held discussions with the team. Parise said he’s hoping for $100 million for his client, though he said that with a laugh.

“We have had discussions, not negotiated, but we have talked,” Parise said. “I think the Steelers and I are on the same page. We don’t think there will be any issues. My goal and, I think, theirs is the same. We know what we need to do and we’ll both go about the business of trying to get it done.”
Parise believes a deal can be wrapped up fairly quickly.
“I’m not worried about the Steelers at all. Their history shows they do the right thing at the right time.”

Yes to Harrison.
The rest depends on the draft or a bargain signing.

Ed Bouchette, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports the Pittsburgh Steelers have begun talking with Bill Parise, agent for LB James Harrison, about a contract extension. Parise believes an extension can be agreed upon fairly quickly. :celebrate:

Our main concern going into this offseason would be extending our core players to contracts that would keep this team together for the next couple years. We won't look into free agency, and everyone and their mother in Pittsburgh should know this. The Steelers are all about clinging to their own players, and that's exactly what they'll do.

Harrison: Lock for a long-term extension. Guaranteed.
Keisel: Depending on value, I don't see Keisel going anywhere. Should get him for a reasonable price both parties should benefit from.
Clark: A MUST RE-SIGN. The best compliment to Troy out there. We know what we will get from Clark. He's a big piece to the secondary.
Foote: Would be a nice depth player.. his starting days are over. With that said, byebye Foote Stomp.
Townsend: Should get him cheap for a 1 year extension.
Hampton: Probably the toughest descision of the '09 class. We could go Nose Tackle in 1,2, or 3. Hammy is up there and the top dollars must go elsewhere.
Reed: Kicker isn't a position that should cause too much up-roar. We will handle Reed just fine.
Miller: I believe the offense will open up next season. Heath is a must-sign. Give him a nice buck.
Ward: Hines isn't going anywhere. Just coming off his best season as a Steeler, and is the face of the organization.
Colon: Front office seems to like him. Much more talent out there, but we must replace him with an upgrade if we decide to part ways. Drafting will be key to the O-line this year and will determine lots of the olines future.

92-Big $$ deal for DPOY and SB performance
99-Not going anywhere
25-Don't think he'll re-up due to Denver debacle; can't blame him for being sore
50-Trade to Lions
26-Fallback plan if replacement not found
98-Think he'll be elsewhere; MT hasn't forgotten his lack of preparedness at camp
and he'll be the poster child for taking care of business in the offseason
3-Money kicker; has earned extension
83-Best TE on roster; will be extended if possible
86-Will retire a Steeler
74-FA and draft will determine his continued tenure; must be moved inside to remain here
20-Would lke to see him become #1 CB
17-Au revoir

JH- He is going to be paid well
BK- A Steeler for the foreseeable future due to lack of talent at DE
RC- Wouldn't surprise me to see the Steelers pick a S in rd 2 this year
LF- Probably gone. Harrison could play inside in a pinch, with Bruce Davis taking over on the outside.
DT- After all those seasons of wanting him gone or at least supplanted as the starter, here's to hoping he stays
CH- Overweight, out of shape, one dimensional, aging players don't deserve top $. When he goes, Dick Lebeau may not be to far after.
JR- It may seem trivial, but he does possess years of experience in one of the toughest kicking environments. Maybe that is not so trivial?
HM- He needs to be here. Steelers would regress as a passing attack with out a player of his caliber. Maybe not elite, but very solid.
HW- An all-time Steeler. Football life just wouldn't be the same if he played for another team. Hopefully $ won't become an issue for either side.
WC- Dude didn't impress to many in his first full season starting
BMc- Steelers could certainly use his talents for one more season
MB- If he is given the boot, make sure he isn't the one doing the booting. Christ, he'd never make it past the parking lot.

Wow, playing GM isn't easy at all. Year in and year out this could get very difficult.
