Even if his knee wasn't down, doesn't the shin count? I thought the zebras got that call right. I questioned the safety call. The defender and Justing were both falling down. It looked to me that Hartwig just grabbed him because he was about to get laid on top of. Regardless of whether or not it was technically a hold, the said infraction didn't look to me that it had any effect on the outcome of the play.

Horsehockey. Apparently they conveniently ignore the constant holding of Harrison and
Woodley. IF Welker was "defenseless", then so was Mitch Berger. The AZ defense lost its composure, plain and simple. Both fumbles by Warner were just that.....fumbles; the last one was a forward pass only if one can complete a forward pass with the elbow.

After watching Ben engineer that final drive... does any of this really matter? Who fucking cares? Ben would have driven them down the field 10 of 10 times.. He is a straight fucking assasin!...Once Ben put the laser scope on Holmes...it was all over!

Curran, of NBCSports.com, reports NFL VP of Officiating Mike Pereira confirmed Arizona Cardinals QB Kurt Warner did indeed fumble the football when he was sacked at the Pittsburgh Steelers' 44-yard line with five seconds remaining in Super Bowl XLIII. Following the game, Warner thought the attempted pass was incomplete. "I was really surprised on that one because I was definitely moving my arm forward to throw the ball," Warner said. "I thought I'd almost gotten the ball off, so yeah, it does surprise you that in that kind of situation - five seconds to go to decide the Super Bowl - you would think it was something they'd do. But maybe somebody saw it clearly." Pereira said the replay official upstairs did see the play clearly. "We confirmed it was a fumble," Pereira said. "The replay assistant in the replay booth saw it was clearly a fumble. The ball got knocked loose and was rolling in his hand before it started forward. He has to have total control."

you are correct...you can push guy into endzone happens all the time. Ben's knee was clearly down on that play had nothing to do with the line pushing him. A conspiracy theorist like Mill will tell you it was payback for his controversial TD against Seattle. Bottom line is Steelers have 6 Lombardi trophies and all the whining in the world can't take those away!!!

- 3 pers. foul flag on AZ on the 3Q march. Uh, no shit. MASKING, LATE HIT on the QB, and bowling over a defenseless FG holder. No fuking shit.

Fine take our FG off the board that we got on that drive. We still win 24-23.

- "Harrison punched a Card and should have been ejected". He didn't punch.....he simply beat on a Card. Frankly, I am not sure why this was a flag. You're SUPPOSED to bury and bludgeon a defender on punt returns. This was NOT after the whistle.

Fine, eject Harrison. He had no impact on the game after that play. After that punt the Steelers offense allowed a safety and then the 64 yard TD to Fitz on the 2nd play from scrimmage beating Harrison. On the 30 second drive to end the game he made one tackle 15 yards downfield that could have been made by anyone.

I agree. I also thought the roughing the passer call on Ben against AZ was a bit soft. I've seen more done to a QB and not had it called. Too many penalties make for a very aggravating game.

I'll take these SB-officiating complaints over last SB's anyday.

Wow. What a Super Bowl to take in. What an amazing game, and yes, I still say it's the best ever ... but let's examine the quality of the officiating, the quality of the game and then Ben Roethlisberger's performance for the ages:

• The Kurt Warner fumble with five seconds to go actually was reviewed -- and upheld. There is no question that, cosmetically, replay assistant Bob McGrath, sitting upstairs, should have called for a booth review and let Terry McAulay see the play down on the field. But understand the mechanics of the way this process works -- and understand the process was aided by a penalty call on the field.

When the ball was knocked loose from Warner and the Steelers recovered, an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty was called on LaMarr Woodley for excessive celebration. So now, in the replay booth, McGrath had extra time, well over a minute, to use the touch-screen system of examining replays of the play. I don't know how many McGrath saw; he had 16 angles to choose from, and he used the extra time -- not only the time that comes with a change of possession and a re-spotting of the ball and a new play clock commencing, but now a discussion among the officials of the penalty and the spot of the penalty and walking off the penalty.

McGrath had around 90 seconds from the time of the loose ball to examine the replays to see if McAulay needed to examine the call himself -- and McGrath judged, and was later backed by the league, that officials on the field made the correct judgment that Warner fumbled before his arm started going forward. I agree that it was close. Very close. I wish McGrath had given McAulay a look. But I don't believe McGrath made the wrong call.

As far as overall officiating, 20 penalties (18 accepted ones, for 162 yards) is a lot. I thought the Karlos Dansby roughness call on Roethlisberger was patently absurd, and that was a big call in the game. I saw a ticky-tack holding call. But overall, other than those two, I thought the officials called penalties when there were penalties.

I Agree on everything King writes above except the holding call.
