From the Post-Gazette this morning: looks like Larry Foote's seen the writing on the wall..

The Detroit Free Press quoted a close friend of Larry Foote's who said the Steelers linebacker would like to play for the Lions.

"He wants to come back here," said Brian Blackburn, Foote's friend. "This is the last year of his contract, and he wants to come back here and play for the Lions for about four years and call it quits after that."

Foote is signed through next season but is scheduled to earn $2,885,000 and he has Lawrence Timmons, the team's first-round draft choice in 2007, behind him. Foote likely would resist if the Steelers request he take a pay cut, leaving the choice in their hands to pay him or release him. They also could try to negotiate an extension, but with Timmons in the picture, that might be a difficult decision.

You either pay him or you trade him for a 4th or more likely a 5th round draft pick. He's a starter on the world champions and there's definitely gas left in the tank.

Someone would get a steal of a deal trading only a 4th round pick for Foote. Foote would leave with experience and leadership potential. Larry is a solid, disciplined run defender.

I am EXTREMELY grateful for Larry Foote. He gave the Stillers six decent to solid seasons in the middle, and was always a good citizen. Two rings, too.

But the Ben Patrick TD summed up Foote in one play; pretty much knows where he needs to be, but not athletic enough to do much about it.

Most of Steeler Nation knows by now that Foote is blocking the more athletic and dynamic Larry Timmons. Thank Foote for the memories and say goodbye. And no one in their right mind would trade any picks for Foote, when they know he might be a cap casualty anyway.

Silly FYI: The camera shot of the "little Steelers girl", with the sticker on her face -- that was actually Foote's daughter.

NO doubt it is time for timmons to step in... but they definitely need a very solid fifth backer.. see how much timmons played this year for instance.. And I'm just saying, it may be time to part ways but he has been a solid player and citizen for years now so thank him for his servie and say farewell.

Steelers are $19 million under the cap. They don't need to cut Foote to make room to sign someone else.

Larry Foote will be a Steeler next season.

Hello James Laurinaitis... Him and Santonio can talk Buckeye Football and raid the PITT dorms.

McLovin still basking in Super Bowl glory but dude give up the Laurinaitis pipe dream. It would make a degree of sense to find somebody to groom for a year behind Farrior but with the OL in shambles and the DL aging and in Hamptons case getting fatter by the second it should be a given that the top pick will be used to re-stock the lines. Plenty of MLBs in this draft to be had after round 1...Beckwith, Brinkley, and McKillop just to name a few to be had after round 2.

I'm sorry, but who in their right mind would leave the Steelers (6 SB champions) and go to the Lions (miserable owners of the only 0-16 season in the NFL)?!

I understand he may love the place but what serious competitor could really stomach that for 4 years? How close is this "friend" that the paper sited??

Sounds like Foote is changing his tune:

John Harris, of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, reports Pittsburgh Steelers LB Larry Foote said he is a member of the Steelers and has no intention of joining the Detroit Lions next season. "It would be ludicrous for me to say I want to leave my last year. It would be stupid to even want to do that," Foote said. "The bottom line is in 2002 the Lions had a chance to draft me. They chose not to. The Steelers did."

Do you really think the PS would move up in the first round to draft a LB this year?

Not a chance with Harrsion, Timmons, Farrior and Woodley.

If they move up, it will be most likely to grab a tackle that has fallen or some other "steal" in the draft.
