Many commentators are scratching their collective heads over why Rooney said that. Here is the Steeler organization working their ass off, fans sweating bullets all year long and Rooney politicizes our victory. It would have been wrong whether he thanked McCain Obama Bush or fucking Richard Nixon. What a kiss ass stupid comment by Dan Rooney

Probably the biggest problem with the United States is that we're all to lethargic about these things and we don't talk or get involved a lot. These things are too important to only focus on every four years.

For all this guy is and the enitre legacy of the Rooney family, you all would do well to reserve judgement and take the time to give what he says some credence. He obviously knew what he was saying.

Here's one stat for you from the NYtimes... Other than in the DEEP south. I mean deeeep (Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi). Allegheny county and the 3 surrounding counties were the only ones to vote more republican than in the previous presidential elections. Every other county in america voted more democratic this time around. All counties in Alaska, WV, Georgia, Florida, Texas, Tenessee,NC, SC KY etc. all voted more democratic.

Take it too Cspan fool and let us celebrate the victory

See that's just like someone who see life as political....if you have a dissenting opinion, they just want you to shut up or go away.

Sorry this is a board for FOOTBALL discussions, not politics, as someone sad a few posts ago, take your political shit to cspan, we will continue to talk football here.

You mean like when players thank family members "who had nothing to do with what happened on that field"?

that would not be devisive, as he says earlier in his post

Never hurts to have the President on the side of the most important man in Pittsburgh. Who knows when the always dying Pittsburgh economy could some kind of political favor.

That is the shit i'm talking about. Why not say "Thanks Bush" while he is at it. Obama had ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with our 6th super bowl victory and should not have been thanked at all and especially shouldn't have been the FIRST person thanked.

political affiliations aside, this is FOOTBALL. If you want to keep football healthy, keep politics out of the game.

Considering the President called Mr. Rooney immediately to congratulate him, Mr. Rooney was quite correct in thanking him.

Thats the tail end of Rooneys NON FOOTBALL involvement with Obama. If Rooney has political aspirations and likes Obama thats his business, NOT STEELER business you politically motivated HACK.

Take the OBAMA bullshit to cspan fool. This is FOOTBALL here you idiot

Politics is already part of every NFL game.

every game starts with the national anthem.
the superbowl includes fly overs of military aircraft.
a general tossed the coin at the superbowl.
you pay taxes on your game tickets.
your tax dollars pay for stadiums.
etc. etc. etc.

That's not being political, that's being an American. Singing the Nation Anthem and supporting the military doesn't bring politics into football. Paying taxes is just a part of life! Even if you never vote or support a canidate you still pay taxes. I think most of us would have just felt better to hear him thanking the players, staff, coaches or someone who had at the very least SOMETHING to do with the Steelers oranization first. He left Steelers fans saying a collective HUH? At least most Steelers fans anyway.

exactly! And not just Steeler fans. Many cable news anchors expressed their confusion and surprise at such an overtly political statement.

Look, what Dan Rooney better understand quick is this. In the USA 52% voted for Obama and 48% DID NOT. Rooney possibly offended a LOT of Steeler fans. In football there are two golden rules. NEVER FUCKING EVER TALK RELIGION OR POLITICS!

Rooney fucking blew it! plain and simple

This is pretty obvious people. Fitzgerald has ONE catch in the first half. Rooney thanks Obama after the game. CLEARLY, he devised the strategy to shut out Fitzgerald in the first half. This is football, not politics. Why would Rooney thank Obama for the game if he didn't have anything to do with it? The answer is as clear as day.
