I'm Sorry but I Must Vent

Postby TheOldRanger » Mon Feb 02, 2009 12:33 pm

This is a rant about our nemeses, the fans of the Ravens. I know, the Ravens are old news, having lost to the Steelers 3 times this season, but some Ravens fans displayed some characteristic behavior last night.

I was at a Super Bowl party, at the home of a friend/customer (a guy who owns a sign shop and who brings us t-shirt jobs). He is a Redskins fan, but wore a Steeler hat for the night in solidarity with Sue and myself. The rest of the people (maybe 16 other adults with kids), were all Ravens fans. There were two rooms set up for watching the game: one equipped with a smaller, oldfashioned tube TV, and a larger room, with a big-ass whompin' 72-inch HDTV, a bar, and many seats. The Ravens fans and their hellish brood stayed in the smaller room, with the ancient fucking Philo Farnsworth TV, leaving Sue and myself ALONE in the larger room with the bar and the better TV. Unbelievable. Not one of the "adults" had the stones to venture into our midst, get to know us, maybe have a little fun. No, we the unwashed were left alone, and it was OK with me, as we had the better TV, all the space to ourselves, and quick access to their beer. They cheered a little too loudly when the Cardinals, a team for which they care nothing, did something positive, and they'd look into the room to see our reaction, like a bunch of snarky-ass little middle-school girls. Someone found a red tea towel, and they instructed one of their kids, a gap-toothed hydrocephalic of about ten years old, to parade around in front of us, waving the sad little towel, whenever the Cardinals scored. What a bunch of trifling bitches. As soon as Santonio caught the winning TD pass, the "adults" gathered up their drooling offspring and got the fuck out of Dodge.

I've been ostracized as a toothless hillbilly ne'er-do-well before, so it's nothing new. It so happens that I come from good strong Western PA hillbilly stock, from the ass-end of Washington County, and I own a complete set of teeth. But, the fact that these "people" would rather huddle around a barely-functioning cathode-ray tube rather than mix with us gets my Scots/Irish mane to standing.

New rule: if/when the Steelers make the playoffs and/or the Super Bowl again, Sue and I will NOT watch it with ANYONE OTHER than other Steeler fans. In fact, we're not going to any more Super Bowl parties ever again, unless they are given by Steeler fans. And, no children! Children who belong to people other than those on my list of friends & family are irritants, like a fistful of sand in your pants.

But, nothing can detract from the fact that we have SIX SUPER BOWL RINGS. That's right, 6.

How in God's name did you control yourself?

..that's why I don't watch the Stillers in public. Do what I do: Watch the game with one true fan (maybe), don't drink, don't smoke....have all your your superstitious gear, take your meds and stay semi-sane.....you're good.

I'm banned from watching the Steelers in public. I am fortunate that almost all of their games were broadcast in my area.

That is a great post!

I watched all but the first quarter on my own, she can't deal with me when I'm in Steeler mode, . . . . twitching, pacing, swearing, waving my arms around like a loon, constantly giving the Cards the finger . . . . and all thousands of miles away in Dudley, England, UK!!

Sixburgh Steelers!!!! :celebrate:

Ranger, I feel your pain. Watched the game where I watch every Stiller game, at my local Steeler's bar here in So Cal. Same seat, same group of great folks who love the Stillers-all except one asshole Pats fan (is there any other kind?). He's a regular at the bar on a daily basis, eating dinner there 7 nights a week, so the owner can't ban him but there he sits, rooting his ass off for the Cards, just to be a dick.
Hang with the Homies, Ranger. Leave the Ravens, Pats, Cowboys and the rest of the insufferables to wallow in the filth of mediocrity with their own ilk. Glad you saw the light.

Every year since 1989 that the Steelers make the playoffs I host a Steelers Playoff Party. It's not a playoff party it's a STEELERS PLAYOFF PARTY! If you are not a Steelers fan you don't get invited. That's my rule! I get invited to other parties but never go. I don't go because they don't follow my rule. I don't want to be around people who aren't Steelers faithful. I was invited to a Super Bowl Party hosted by a Steelers fan. But, they invited others as well. A good friend of mine went and he was not too happy about Cardinals fans being there. So, it was best I didn't go. When it comes to such things I have a big mouth and a short fuse. I stayed at home and watched the game alone. I talked to friends during the commercials as I could care less about the Super Bowl ads. My neighbors know I am a huge Steelers fan! But, I am quite sure they had thought I lost my mind at the end of the first half as I leaped over the coffee table screaming:

RUN SILVERBACK!!! RUN!!! GO! GO! GO! RUN SILVERBACK!!!
TOUCHDOWN!!!!!!

I will be home alone for the next one as well! It was most enjoyable!!

I watched the Super Bowl with lots of Steeler fans and a couple raven fans. They are pathetic because they said the dumbest things to the television. When pittsburgh was up they were quiet. When pittsburgh got behind in THE VERY END, they stood up and yelled. When the Super Bowl was done and Pittsburgh won, they said "we are going to the Super Bowl next year!" How bout you worry about your free agents, not the playoffs hahahaha

i think i had it worse than anyone

stuck in the butthole middle of washington state i asked around to find the best sports bar this town had to offer (travel for work). i watched the game in a bar full of still-disgruntled seahawks fans (at least 200 strong) with 3-4 stillers fans including myself. they too decided to be as loud and rowdy as they could for a team they couldnt care less about strictly because it was rooting against the stillers. i was talking to one of them and it turns out it was encouraged by the owner and manager of the place to get together to 'cheer for the steelers to lose'. boy was it great listening to that place deflate when santonio caught that ball. i did me a little :celebrate: with a good helping of :sufu: then got my ass out of dodge before something bad happened.

oh yeah! did you hear? we won the super bowl again and now we have SIX SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!!!

suck it seahawks fans :sucope:

I live in Iowa, so I had to deal with all of the "I'm rooting for Kurt Warner" idiots. Just because he played for northern Iowa 80 years ago and worked at the local HY Vee grocery store is no reason to come to MY HOUSE and root against the Steelers. I threw all the bastards out and watched the 4Q by myself. Fuck em.

Try this one on for size:

I take my brother-in-law to the AFCCG against the Ravens, his second NFL game of his life! So, basically he gets to go to the greatest AFC game of the year..... I like to call it the "real fans Super Bowl"....... on my nickel. He hoots and hollars for the home team with us all, and I think to myself......after this experiance he will become a semi-steeler fan.

So Sunday, we have a family Super Bowl party, and he has the audacity to root for the Cardinals!?! I'm thinking accidental death in his future for making me waste that AFCCG ticket on his a**!

you saw the RatBird fans for what they are - losers

I live here in RatLand too - I REFUSE to watch a Stillers game with those idiots (certainly not a SB) - most of them don't know anything about the game and just whine all game long about the refs.

That being said, I try to put the shoe on the other foot - how many of us could stomach Rat fans had they been in the SB instead of us (or any year for that matter)

It is the nature of 'sports hatred' and it sometimes goes too far

Our last SB I was invited to a party thrown by my aunt and her husband. Knowing how heated I can get over football, I asked if there would be any Steelers fans there and she said yes. I judged it safe enough to go. I didn't want to watch it alone, it being only the 2nd SB attempt in my lifetime (I'm 25). What she failed to tell me is the healthy heaping of Steelers-haters that would be watching. My uncle and a family friend really seemed like the ONLY other Steelers fans there(and that was central PA, for crying out loud!)

I spent nearly the whole game with a drunk hater in my face and the rest of 'em *itching about the refs. I couldn't even enjoy the win fully.

This year I wanted to find a Steelers bar to go to. I wanted to be around true football fans. Hard to do since I moved to GA and currently hang with a bunch of Aussies that don't know the game and Americans that are disinterested in it.

I ended up downtown, in a supposed "Steelers Bar." The grand total of fans may have been 4 including myself and my husband. The rest were pure haters. No cardinals attire. No red or white at all. Just a bunch of loud mouths during 4th quarter. They came out of the woodwork!

I've never gritted my teeth so hard than in that last quarter. I almost felt like I was generating an ulcer. I was thinking (please, Lord, don't let it end like this!) When the game finally ended I loudly cheered, "One for the OTHER thumb" while waving my terrible towel and smiled like an arrogant snot on the way out. :sucope:

I thought there would be more fans in Athens, GA (UGA being Ward's alma mater). They must have had their own SB parties.

If it's my Steelers in the SB....I stay at home and my lady and i watch alone.

If my team isn't in it I'll go to a party sometimes cause i just don't care.

I told my lady's daughter(25 yr old Colts Semi-fan) if she intended to root against the Steelers i would put her out in the snow.....she didn't come home til well after the game.
