Thanks Obama?!?!?!

Postby rlbess » Mon Feb 02, 2009 7:36 am

What the hell kind of thing is that to say at the Lombardi awarding??? I know the Rooney's are big Dems, but why drag politics into a sporting venue? I mean, even on a realistic level, what the hell did Obama have to do with the Steelers win????

And this is the first guy he thanks? What a suck up!!

The Steelers won the game, Barry had nothing to do with it. I was pissed when they gave him a jersye, then I got mad when the bastard gave him the AFC Champ game ball, but this is crazy.

Just my 2 cents.

D1ttos

anyone ever say 'thanks Bill, thanks George, thanks Ronnie, heck - thanks Mr. Eisenhower"?

How stupid

what - is Obama slipping a few extra million into Rooney's pocket from the 800M spending package?

Well, I have a spot on my wall for the photo of Oby and Tomlin shaking hands.

Don't be hatin'. I'm sure Pres.Obama called the Ben to 10 TD pass. (after all that's who Coach Tomlin was talking to on his headset) He probably also had something to do with Silverback's 100 yd.TD int. ret. ;) I'm sure Obama cured Hines Ward so that he could play.
Did anyone thank the Boss,Bruce Springsteen?!?!?

No one is talking about McCain....his sorry ass should have not been mentioned either. The point is politics has no place in sports, and anyone who can't see that is a moron.

How about politics should be a part of everything in our daily lives, including sports?
Probably the biggest problem with the United States is that we're all to lethargic about these things and we don't talk or get involved a lot. These things are too important to only focus on every four years.

For all this guy is and the enitre legacy of the Rooney family, you all would do well to reserve judgement and take the time to give what he says some credence. He obviously knew what he was saying.

Here's one stat for you from the NYtimes... Other than in the DEEP south. I mean deeeep (Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi). Allegheny county and the 3 surrounding counties were the only ones to vote more republican than in the previous presidential elections. Every other county in america voted more democratic this time around. All counties in Alaska, WV, Georgia, Florida, Texas, Tenessee,NC, SC KY etc. all voted more democratic.

Agreed rlbess. Nothing to do with McCain, and nothing to do with Obama. It's sports, the one area where all that should matter is performance, not politics/posturing.

On a side note, let's GrowUp.org, not MoveOn.org

smheart78, agree on the importance, but the point is that when everything is political (like at most jobs) it's worse than when it's based on performance. It's more fair to pay people on seniority/birthright than performance? Unfortunately, it's too hard to reward everyone based on that in most jobs (except sales and sports), so it's who you know and how well you kiss up.

Relax fellow steeler fans. Obama is the man and simply congratulated him. Yeah true that he shouldn't have gotten politics into this but at least he didn't say "Thanks Bush" lol. Go Steelers!!! :sufootballhelmet:

From Yahoo sports....
If Tomlin had one regret, it was in regards to what he could not accept - congratulations from President Barack Obama amid a frenzied postgame celebration.

“It’s what you dream about, not only as a coach, but as a citizen,” Tomlin said. “(But) I heard very little of what he said, and I let him know that. I said, ‘I can’t hear what you’re saying, but I appreciate the call. I appreciate the congratulations.’ And I handed the phone back to Mr. Rooney.”

I think that's probably why he thank him. The president actually called to congratualte them.

I must say I didn't understand the thinking behind that myself. It just made no sense to me whatsoever.

Didn't think it odd or inappropriate at all.
Hey, when was the last time you heard a politician put it all out there and pick a team to root for? He gave props to Da Bears, as he should, but loves the Steelers. His team won and he's the Prez; make the call, Mr. President.

In this country, politics are divisive.

At a moment when all of Steeler nation should have been united in celebration, Dan choose to let politics enter into it by singling out a politician who had nothing to do with what happened on that field.

You mean like when players thank family members "who had nothing to do with what happened on that field"?

I only mean that if 40 percent of the population don't support "family members".

And if you think family members don't have anything to do with getting an athlete ready to play then you have never been an athlete or had one in your family.
