Arians....gone or not?
many of us have blamed Arians and his play calling for our lack of scoring...what with all the tools at his disposal he still just doesn't get it, etc etc
On local TV (Harrisburg, PA) the other night they had a 5 min story about how well Arians and Ben get along and what a great OC Arians is and he is from York county PA and blah blah blah
maybe the front office nor HC see what we see and if we win the SB....Arians will be back next year.....

Re: Arians....gone or not?
Somebody has to take the fall for a $100mil qb getting sacked 46 times and a running game that's dropped to an unthinkable 23rd in the league...but it won't be Arians. McLovin looks for Larry Porn to take the fall....

The Catch-22:
If the Steelers LOSE, it's Arians' fault (especially to the loyal readers, staff and animated smileys of Stillers.com)
If the Steelers WIN, he looks better than he is and he is in position to negotiate for a contract extension or a good job with one of the 27 teams who will have new head coaches next year.

WTF? 27 coaches? Tomlin is not going to fire coaches that helped take him to the Super Bowl. By making it to the Super Bowl, Mill and the rest of us haters have earned at least one more year of bitching about Arians.

Re: Arians....gone or not?
ariens will be here as long as ben is!
ariens play calling works just fine and this offense lights it up if they build a decent line, but fans will be fans....
ariens has had a below avg oline to work with which people like to gloss over , any oc would have similar results with that line.

McLovin the biggest basher of the OL on this site but there were games this year most notably the Philly game where Arians made zero adjustments and if McLovin recalls correctly was chastized in a meeting with Tomlin after the game because of it. A guy like Mill can take you through game by game playcalling blunders this guy has made. Darth you're right the OL needs fixed but Arians is NOT adept at calling plays. Oh and....

Re: Arians....gone or not?
I'm half hoping we scrape a win on Sunday, with pick 6's and fumble returns etc . . .
Surely then Airhead must go, trouble is who's gonna want him?
I'm not so sure Ben and Airhead are all that together to be honest!

!
Why does somebody have to want Arians? Teams can fire who they want...is there a new Rooney rule that says if you fire a coach you have to find them another job? The actual problem to firing Arians UK is finding a suitable successor now that the reputable OC's have all been hired such as Linehan, Jagozinski etc.
Re: Arians....gone or not?
As much as many would love to see Arians fired...it ain't happening win or lose. This team is in the SB. People do not get fired when their team goes to the SB. Mark it down...Arians will be here next year.
Marines should come with warning labels.
Re: Arians....gone or not?
While I think that Tomlin knows that Arians is not up to par, I don't know that there is any immediate answer to replace him as OC (would love to hear suggestions) and also I don't think that the Rooneys would allow their OC to be fired after making the super bowl...just doesn't seem like there style to me

Re: Arians....gone or not?
Article talked today about how Ben is given tremendous freedom to run the 2-minute offense and the no-huddle.
With all the commentary I've heard about his part in developing the game plan, those scripted 15 plays or so to start a game (where they usually look pretty good, so there's one indicator)....
I have a FEELING that, maybe Ben and Arians do get along (although, plenty of players, including Ben, seemed upset with the way things have gone at times this year)....I think that the scheme and design is generally pretty good, but the playcalling sucks. I have a FEELING that Ben is going to be, in a year or two, the first QB since Terry Bradshaw to call all his own plays. That's the direction I see this going and the only way I think you justify keeping Arians because he has a good relationship with Ben and the plays work, when called effectively.
The other option is keeping Arians and putting someone up in the booth to call plays.
Looking at the success Ben has when calling his own plays, I think the only conclusion is either Ben is phenomenal and should be calling more plays OR Arians is a moron and should be calling less. Quite possibly a bit of both.

Re: Arians....gone or not?
I think I just read two of the most ridiculous comments ever...one being people thinking we're going to fire an OC that was part of a team that made it to the Superbowl, and the other being that Arians playcalling works well. Both assumptions are completely opposite, but dumb as fuck.
Re: Arians....gone or not?
My memory is a little fuzzy on this, but didn't the Stillers show their OC the door right after the SB30 loss to the Cowboys? Was his name Erhardt? His contract was up, and they didn't offer him an extension. That's not exactly the same as firing him, but usually if a team wants to keep a coach they offer him an extension. Cowher promoted Chan Gailey to OC. Wasn't that immediately after the Super Bowl loss? I'm too lazy to look up the details.

It was, but that was different- Cowher and Erhart were feuding over offensive philosophy- Erhart didn't like the 4,5-WR sets the Steelers were using that year.
Tomlin has given no indication he thinks Arians' philosophy is bad- I think he believes that with better men up front, Arians offense will work.

That may be true but our OL is what it is and the Fuckhead does not ADJUST....one shouldn't stick with what is not working until our front is better next year or the next year!!!!

That about sums it up. I call this thread officially closed.
