Ben Vs. Whiz

Postby LooseSlag » Mon Jan 19, 2009 2:51 pm

Anyone think that the dislike between these two got into Ben's head in last years game? I worry he may try too hard against the Whiz and make mistakes.

I'm not sure if this is what started it but Whisenhunt made comments after he left the Steelers that the motorcycle crash and appendectomy made Ben "Gun Shy" the rest of that season. Ben refused to shake his hand before the game in Arizona last year.

Loose Slag hit something that my dad and I talk about a lot. Ben was the only steelers player not to shake Whisenhunt's hand when we went down to AZ last year. Everyone else was hugging Whis on the field. Ben put so much uneeded pressure on himself.

I think it stems from Ben saying that Whis and he never met eye to eye. I think Ben wanted to run the no-huddle as well as pass more but the Whis wouldn't let him. Ben had a few slightly negative remarks about Cowher as well. I was a bit dissapointed that Ben put this out there after each coach moved on.

I wonder if he thinks Arians is the man.

oh yes, i remember the no-hand-shake thing.

i'm sure it will be talked about a lot in the next two weeks and be thought about by both parties. but once the game starts, small things like that lose focus.

Ron Cook was a guest on outside the lines today and Bob Ley asked if or why there was hard feelings between Ben and Whiz and Cookie seemed somewhat critical of Ben saying that Ben was the one who was immature and not popular with his teammates. He said that Ben accused Whiz of rushing him back to play before he was ready. Cookie went on to bore Bob Ley to death talking about how Ben texted Whiz a couple days later to apologize for not shaking his hand but that was just typical immature behavior of Ben going so far as to say that Tomlin may have "doctored" votes so that Ben would be a captain this year. Anyway, Cooke said that we the fans are not concerned that Whiz knows how to get in Ben's head and will know what defenses to call to rattle him. Hopefully, Ben shows some maturity and plays within himself and doesn't give it a thought that Whiz is on the other sideline.

bens shown progression over the yrs after making mistakes ect... he was a bit nervous, over excited in the first half of the jags game last season and this yr he looked like a veteran qb that was completely calm doing exactly what was needed from him in the 2 playoff games.

he played great in the 3 playoff games in 05, but he looked over excited and nervous in both of those games also, even though the stats and 3-0 record do not show it.

I think he is a comletely different qb metally then what whiz saw when he coached him .I think he will be steady freddy in the game and for the rest of his career for that matter.
