Some of the worst playcalling I've ever seen....
and we still beat em.
Frankly I think the Ravens were VERY over rated. They had no business being in that game. The officials, poor play calling, and just ridiculous mistakes by the steelers kept it close. This game should have been a blow out. Between Sweed, Berger, and Arians it was like they were determined to lose this game.
I still think Arians deserves to be fired. There's no excuse for our offense to be 22nd in the league. There was no excuse for the 2nd half play calling either.
The team leaders put the team on their back and did it. Props to Ben and Troy. I really thought they were the reason we over came that mess.
It cracked me up how ESPN billed this game as the hardest hitting, most physical match up of the year. The only ones hitting hard were the Steelers. I didn't see too many Raven's physically dominating anyone. Biggest pretenders I've ever seen.
The SB is going to be interesting to say the least. The Pittsburgh Steelers vs the Arizona Steelers. How cool is it that Cowher's staff has found them selves playing each other in the SB? What an opportunity for Tomlin to yank that monkey off his back and stomp him into the ground.
Tomlin officially has my respect as a head coach. I've always sort of thought that he was riding on the fact that he inherited a well coached team, with tons of talent, and the best defensive coordinator ever. While that may be true, you've got to know what you are doing to get to a SB.
This team is primed for long term success. We are young, our offense has a ton of room for improvement, our defense is full of play makers, we've got depth, and a great coaching staff.

Re: Some of the worst playcalling I've ever seen....
I almost had to chuckle to myself when ariens started the run 2 plays for 2 yds and throw on third down crap after throwing the ball all over the field in the first half. I really find ariens/tomlin commical with the whole we are the stillers , we have to run no matter what , even if the ravens have proven to us over the last 20 qts we cant get an inch on them.....
running on first and econd for 2 yds is a recipe for disaster against a ravens defense that thrives on knowing your gonna pass, luckily ben was readding the field well tonight or a tipped pass at the line ect.... would havegone 6 the other way....

It was bad, wasn't it.
I can't figure Arians out. He must be great in meetings, or something. I've known engineers like that. They were absolutely brilliant in board meetings. Then when it came time to design a product they became dimwits. But they always had an excuse and upper management would just drool over them. Eventually their lack of engineering talent would catch up with them and they would be gone. That is after the damage had been done.

My concern with Arians is his drag on morale. Let's dream and say the Steelers win the Super Bowl.....what next? Arians will be bulletproof at least for one season.
It's clear that he has some major shortcomings and blind spots and it's equally clear that BR7 is running out of patience with the system and the in-game situational calls.
Tomlin has borrowed Belichick's "we're a team" mantra wholesale and BR7 et al are doing a very good job of parroting the company line but common sense says there have been disagreements or worse about Arians and his approach to the game.

JUst to be clear: you'd fire him today, two weeks before the super bowl, right?
Tomlin has to take some of the heat on this. He is the HC and can veto or give directions to Arians. BA is not incapable of calling a good game..see the first half last night.. what is more mystifying is how he could just switch gears to crappiness in a game like that... the end of first half clock mismanagement seemed to throw them... Sweed faking hurt really hurt the team... and they had to throw it into the end zone or away and get a FG.... But come on. let's not nitpick today. It's a day for celebration. Raise a toast to MLk, Barack Obama and the mighty Mike Tomlin and let all the little beefs slide, dudes.

I like COMMITMENT to the run, but what happened last night was blind/irrational forcing of the run game. I was waiting for the no-huddle drive that always ends up in a TD. It never came. I agree, the Ravens were a joke and we let them seem close to us.

Me too.

Arians pulled this bullshit when he was the Cleveland o-coordinator in 2003 and we came back to win the playoff game.
He is a terrible coordinator and I fear it could cost them in the SB against the highly imaginative Whisenhunt.

My fear exactly. He is an asset to the opponents D half the time. Where the fuck was the play action? What's the point of running up the gut over and again if you don't keep 'em honest? At least occasionally put in Moore to open up the possibility it might be a passing set.
And, I about crapped my pants on the 3rd and 1 empty set. Fucking moron. He belongs with Bill Cowher's next meathead gig, wherever that ends up.
Re: Some of the worst playcalling I've ever seen....
McLovin of course has some thoughts on this playcalling DISASTER and make no mistake it was a DISASTER. McLovin agrees with all the negativity on this thread toward Arians. This is a clear case of LeBeau and Troy getting the Steelers to the Super Bowl plain and simple. Arians did his best to blow the game (McLovin thinks he had money on the Ravens). The 3rd and 1 incomplete pass sealed it for McLovin...GET RID OF THIS GUY as soon as the Super Bowl victory is complete. Larry Porn is an even bigger MUST FIRE. The OL was HORRIBLE yesterday. BloMe Ngata abused the OL all game long. Kemo SUCKED. Starks couldn't handle a guy playing with 1 shoulder. He literally was a full 2 count late on a snap count leading to Suggs' 2nd sack. Stapleton will not be a Staple on the line next year and if Colonoscopy commits just one more penalty McLovin going to stroke out at the ripe old age of 37! Don't get McLovin started on LIMAS FUCKING SWEED!!! Awful player Awful Draft pick! McLovin' thrives on enthusiasm but fellas Steelers simply don't have a Super Bowl OL or OC. McLovin hopes LeBeau knows the Whiz offense and will be prepared for trick plays. Go Steelers
Re: Some of the worst playcalling I've ever seen....
Simply put, ARIENS BLOWS!
Ben should call the plays 24-7, as long as the Steelers insist on employing Ariens.
