Silverback
I know this sounds like a broken record, but i'm sick and tired of watching James Harrison get mauled on almost each and every play and never drawing a holding penalty. On the play right before the Troy Polamalu roughing the quarterback play, Harrison was blatantly taken to the ground and tackled by McNeil, right in front of the referre and no flag was thrown. What do the officials have against this beast among men? I'm fucking sick of it. By the way, the Steelers will blow the Ravens out next week.

I couldn't agree with you more. I get so fed up with it, I have TIVO and I sit there and replay series and downs over and over and it is utter garbage that we do not draw more Holding calls. UTTER GARBAGE

Not sure which play you're thinking of, but the one where the lineman wrapped 2 arms around his back and rode him to the ground just blew me away. Wow, how does that NOT get a call?

Re: Silverback
I think on that McNeil one, He was held even before he got to McNeil. I was watching the game with a Packer fan and told him that going into the Browns game it had been several games since the Stillers had drawn a holding penalty from the opposing team. He was pointing out holding non-stop.
To be fair the stillers got away with some holding, but nothing like the way refs look the other way when James Harrison is coming.

Re: Silverback
It is a pathetic but all I could do was laugh when McNeil mugged harrison, tackled him to the ground and while laying on top of him threw his arms out to gesture that he wasn't holding. LOL. That Sh@$ was hilarious.
Re: Silverback
At the risk of restating the bleedin' obvious that piggy-back ride was incredible to watch and grimly amusing that the ref couldn't be bothered to throw a flag - maybe he felt sorry for SD at that point.
There can be no doubt that Ray Lewis would have elicited a flag - the NFL is in danger of adopting the NBA's star system where officiating is concerned. Harrison rarely speaks to the press and because he doesn't cheerlead for himself he's not a media favorite despite his POY award. This focus on the task at hand confounds the media and the NFL PR folks who want show ponies and the show ponies are rewarded with penalty flags the same way Dale Earnhardt always managed to get a yellow flag at just the right moments.

This is the NFL trying to protect the QB's. They don't like guys like Harrison at all. Not only does he get to QB's but he typically hits them pretty hard. The league has chose to allow OT's to hold defenders in order to prevent them from blind siding the QB's. It's obvious that the officials are purposely ignoring the hold calls. They could not be more obvious, and as soon as opponents realize they aren't going to get called they do it even more.
If those holds were called this game would have been a total blow out. I mean like 54-3 kind of blow out. Just think of all those plays they made that should have been negated and marched back 10 yards. You put any offense in 3rd and long vs our defense and it's over.

Sadly, I think you may be right. I think this is the most likely explanation. I think Tomlin should have petitioned the league weeks ago on this issue though. It seems to me that Harrison is held on 50% of his pass rushes. If Tomlin calls them out on this, we should get at least one flag per game.
Either way...SILVERBACK IS A BEAST. I LOVE THIS GUY.

LaMarr's spike of Rivers (a la Jason Campbell) was a thing of beauty.

Re: Silverback
Harrison was getting mugged.
However, he still came close to a couple of sacks. Plus he had a few occassions where he almost slapped the ball out of Rivers hand. I look for him to cause atleast one fumble against the birds.

Harrison does get mauled and it is infuriating at times, but when you look at how tall most LT's are (McNeill is like 6'7 and harrison is barely 6'0) they have no choice but to really lean on harrison making it look even worse than it is. Bottom line is get used to it especially in the playoffs when penalties infrequently called unless its for dipshit penalties that the Stapeltons and Colonoscopy commit on a gamely basis. On the bright side Lamar Woodley looked incredible and should get pressure on another pocket passer in Flacco.
Re: Silverback
I personally like the replay from the previous game of Keisel's sack. Harrison is rushing between guard and tackle and both have the hands on his throat, head pushed back. As Silverback comes through the line the guard grabs a horsecollar and rides him to the point of sack.
