S-Cat, you seem to have a brain. Outstanding. Please linger on this forum. You will provide much-needed balance.

Joe cannot answer me, as he realizes that his amusing retorts of my list of alternative-energy sources confounds his arguement with truth, and must then lash out at S-Cat, who has proven that he/she can hold his/her own.

Anyway: referring to me as a fucking hippie makes me angry. And, as I have had several shots of top-shelf bourbon this evening, I feel as though I must retort. If you must categorize me, I am a punk farmer. I listen to the Ramones while tilling my vegetable beds, and the Stooges while I tend to my chickens. Eat it, redneck. I'll knock your teeth through your asshole.

Joe, you cretin. You can't argue your "points" in any fashion that might convince an otherwise opposing viewpoint to concede your position. In dumb-guy lingo, you ain't convincin' nobody. You don't really know shit.

We, as a nation, have to accept that we can't continue to consume fossil fuels the way we have...there's a limit to what we can twist out of the ground, and that which we then burn pollutes the fucking atmosphere horribly.

But, Joe can't understand that. He doesn't even know what the terms "finite" and "infinite" mean. I am now going to school him, so, please, all readers who have a brain, go read something else:

Joe: there is a finite amount of fossil fuel left in the planet. This means that, no matter how many wells we sink, how many mountaintops we scrape away, there will come a time when we've dug and pumped up all of it. You see, fossil fuels (crude oil, coal, methane gas, etc.) were made from the remains of all the dead things...animals and plants, rotting and dessicating under great pressure. The remains are the deposits of crude oil and coal. They were once animals and plants, Joe! Can you draw a nice picture of animals and plants? I know you can!

One day, there won't be any more, because we'll have sucked it all up. Unfortunately, there will still be billions of human beings left on the planet, plugged into their iPhones and iPods and cable TV wit da HD thangs. There will still be people who have an expectation of, you know, LIVING. They won't all say, "Hey, our civilizations are crumbling, as there is no more fuel to run them. No biggie. It's cool." No, they won't say that at all.

So, can you see that ignorant nonrecycling huge-truck-driving Republican-voting imbeciles need to readjust their thinking? You don't? Why am I not surprised?

Enjoy Hell, Joey!

I forgot to mention: good to see you posting, Brian. Last year, you'd alluded to the fact that you might be out of the mainstream for a while, so to speak. I simply cannot begin to imagine what you might have meant, but let me now say that it's good to hear from you, despite your misguided support for a totally moribund football team.

Schrodinger's Cat wrote:There exists the notion that the continuously high prices of energy will play a role in a serious reduction in the average American's standard of living. Seriously, this was presented on cable news as if they were announcing a national tragedy....you know...something almost as serious as American Idol being cancelled.

My opinion: so what if our standards of living diminish to levels of the 1960s or 1970s? Were those particularly horrible times to be raising a family? What's the rub? No cell phones for every 8 year old? Really, I'd embrace such a change. Maybe my children could grow up in a world without so much contrived bullshit.

Back to you. Mr. Cat!

Took me a while to get back to you and I do apologize for that. You see, I'm not some 9-5, cooshy-bottomed office sitter. I actually have to work for a living so I can't spend my days endlessly sitting in my 'corner office with the window' plinking on a computer that some IT guy has so generously busted his ass to keep running! Anyhow...

You say 'mid-thirties. I'll assume thirty five. That means you were hatched in 1973. Fair enough. By the time 1980 hit, you were just cracking the seven year mark. Seriously, do you have ANY recollection of those years other than the usual family things like vacations, holidays and gifts or aunts/uncles and cousins? Fer cripes sakes, you were only a CHILD living happily within your family group. You couldn't POSSIBLY have any recollection of what went on then outside of what the 'grown ups' talked about during dinner or out back at the BBQ grill. You were too young. You may have heard things but you were too young to relate them to your life experiences. Hells Bells, you didn't start driving until the mid eighties! And yet you have no compunction of wanting to go back and live that life style! And you weren't even BORN yet in the sixties so all you know about them is what your Liberal/commie/ex-hippie College Profs have related to you or what ever documentaries you may have seen on the PBS channels!

You want to live that life-style? Have at it, but do so alone, fool. Your damn problem is you take all of today's 'high tech' and immediately relate it all to your personal satisfaction as if all it's good for is I-phones, I-pods and Internet connectivity. As you were not there, you have NO idea what went on before this technology existed. You say You could live without an eight year old and her cell phone. Fine. Could you live without a Cat-Scanner too?

Like any Liberal, you live for yourself and your view is twisted to view the world revolving around you personally. Sure technology has had that effect with blackberries, Cell phones and the like. Are you so thick as to not see the 'wider' picture? Fer Cripes sakes, our towns Hockey Legend was diagnosed with cancer and he walks around (thank God) today happily cancer free! Ever think about WHY?

If he spent his adult years in the sixties or even the seventies I can damn well guarantee you he wouldn't be here today. Today, thanks to technology, most cancers have become just a large (and expensive) pain in the ass. Doctor tells you you have it and you say "Damn. Where do we start?" In the sixties and seventies you would have been told to get your affairs in order. Back then, they were a death sentence. My Mother found that out for herself in my fourteenth year.

A few years ago, most of this end of the coast had to evacuate inland as there was a giant Hurricane coming. Thanks to modern weather Radar technology, we knew where it was going, when it would arrive and how strong it was going to be when it got here (luckily, that one glanced the NC coast and moved out to sea again and died) What if we weren't so lucky? Nobody was here so hundreds of thousands would have been spared. We all remember Katrina but are you aware that wasn't the only time they got clobbered. In 1969 Gulfport, Mississippi took a direct hit and those people didn't have the benefit of todays technology. They knew she was coming but had little idea of the details. It was tragic.

You whitney-heiney libs bitch and moan because your bimmer only gets thirty two MPG. Try driving your Grand Dad's 67' Oldsmobile (without anti-lock) and brag to your co-workers about getting 15 MPG in a mid-size sedan! Then take her out for a 'spin' on the snow-packed hills of Western Pa.! Weeeee!

Hungry? Go pop something into the microwave. Perhaps one of those shelf-stable complete meals would be good. The only 'quick' kitchen appliance available to us in the sixties was a toaster! And if you wanted a meal, you better have known how to cook. Ahead, give up that microwave for a stove. Betcha you won't.

I could go on and on with a fool like you but I've said enough. If you want to 'divest' your self of our 'evil, uncaring, world-hating' lifestyle, be our guest! Go off in the woods with your other radical tree-hugger pals and eat bark for all we care. As for the rest of us, we'll stay right here! As the lady sings "For THESE are the good 'Ol days...."

we could hook a turbine up to joe's fucking blowhole...that could help power a couple counties. i thought you worked in radio, joe? that's not a real fucking job. those 'farms' you speak of are for wind-mills, not turbines. turbines would produce more energy with a smaller physical footprint...and they won't kill as many birds...which is disappointing...i fucking hate birds - seriously.

you're right about geo-thermal...only those in hawaii, or near volcanoes can use it. which easily explains why its gaining so much popularity here in FUCKING ILLINOIS..you know, "illinois - land of volcanoes."

accuse me of being liberal all you want, but i burn 50-60 gls. of diesel a day @ $4.79/gal. coming out of my pocket...if wanting to find an alternative makes me a fucking tree-hugger, so be it.

This is big joes wife. I drive a Toyota Prius and as "God is my witness I will never vote for a republican." I can't believe that I sleep next to a Republican. I guess opposites attract. The only thing that we ever fight about is politics. However,we might separate if McSenile wins I told him today that I was going to move to Canada. I can't take another 4 years of republican leadership. I didn't think he beleived me but I really meant it!!!!

P.S. I throw away all republican mail and hang up on all his republican solicitations.

I think he writes all this stuff just to egg you guys on.
