Bad History against Chargers
Not to be pesimistic but lately we have had bad luck against Bolts at home in Playoffs.
Re: Bad History against Chargers
I don't buy into that history stuff. Not saying we can't lose, but I don't buy it.
On the defensive side of the ball, I believe our corners will do a good job, and I think Gates will have a minimal impact on the game outcome. The wild card is Sproles. If SD is successful in using him (screens etc.) it could complicate things.
Offsnsively we have to protect the ball. Ben's play will dictate the game IMO.
I don't believe special teams will lose the game for us.

I didn't realize Tim McKyer and Alfred Pupunu were current players in the NFL.
How do you think Tony Martin matches up against our secondary? Do you think the front 7 can contain Natrone Means? Do you think Max Starks will hold up well against Leslie O'Neal?

It's not ancient history , but I'm sure you are a lot younger thn I so maybe it is to you.
I believe the same goes for Philadelphia. We haven't played them in Philly for how long but we still can't win there.
I don't think it really has a burden on this game, at leat not a significant one such as we have a QB that is regressing, coming off another head injury, and not known as a good learner or even coachable. Or the fact that our HC is not experienced in the Playoffs and he also stands behind an Idiot of an OC and doesn't even see the facts in front of him or is afraid o be a leader and tell Ben to get his shit together, instead he allows him to pick the plays he likes and everyone else takes the blame for his inability to perform. Maybe the head injury will wake him up.
And come draft time I would be willing to bet we do not take an OL in round 1 or 2 and we will not seek anyone good in FA.
All the WRs have had a bad case of I cant catch syndrome lately. The running game is non existant and the Refs hate us so this will be a big hill to climb.
They can do it but we will see what team shows up and how much they want it
1 good thing is tha it as been pretty quiet on the front lately no talking crap or anything maybe they finally see that they need to get serious

The more I think about this game, the more confident I am they will win.
History or not... The 'conditions' will keep San Diego from establishing anything offensively. You take their run game away, you get Rivers running around, throwing the ball away.
17-6 Good Guys.

actually our rec vs them at home is as good as it gets. that one playoff blunder was just the result of the team celebrating before they won the game, like making super bowl rap videos instead of focusing on the task at hand

I could be wrong seeing that I do not look up stats and stuff but I believe our record at home in the playoffs against San Diego is 0 - 2. Not that it really matters at all just a point that someone in the media will make and the Bolts and Stillers may feed off of.
We have a better team but the O has played horrible mostly the O-Line and QB. Though I do not think Benji can or will win any playoff games himself I believe he could very well loose one by himself. But while we talk stats we are also 2 - 0 this year when Byron comes in for Benji.

The other loss was from the strike season so not a good measuring stick. As for recent & not so recent history, this nyear we DID:
- Win in Foxboro aginst the Pats for nthe 1st time under Bele-cheat
- Win in PIT against Dallas for the 1st time since Bradshaw was our QB
- Win in Balt for the 1st time since 2002
Overall I like our chances at putting away another ghost by beating the Chargers in the playoffs.

Since when is January 1983 and the 94 season rescent? Fact is those are the only two games the Chargers ever won in Pittsburgh in their existance, it's like 14 - 2 now.
I love this kind of logic, it bears no resembelance to today.
WOW, 2 wins! I guess we can't beat them, (even though those were totally different teams that are not what now doubled their offensive output).
So the Steelers defense this year gave Cassel, Rivers, and Ryan, (at least), their worst game of the year. Tell me what's going to all of a sudden 'turn that all around' in freezing choppy January Heinz Field for these quarterbacks?
Like real cognitive analysis, please.

1) I live in San Diego...and they have replayed portions of and/or had interviews with players from the 1994 AFCCG....ad nauseum!!!
2) Ben in the 2005 play-offs is what I plan on seeing the next two weeks.

You mean like when was the last time the Pittsburgh Steelers won in Philadelphia? The last time the Pittsburgh Steelers won a playoff game at home when they were favored? The last time we won a playoff game under Mike "Supercoach" Tomlin? The last time we beat a team everywhere including the scoreboard?
