Ben Switches Helmets, but...

Postby thesteelhammer » Wed Jan 07, 2009 11:34 pm

It's still not the newer style of helmet designed to better protect against concussions.
It's the same type he has been wearing just a bigger size cause his head is swollen from getting hit. :?

his choice i guess, but why wouldn't anyone not want to wear one of the new helmets if they're safer?

Well, it might just have to be he doesn't want to change a piece of equipment that might affect his gameplay going into the playoffs. Those big helmets might take sometime to get used to. They look extremely awkward and bulky.

Heck he doesn't wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle so why should he care about a football helmet. He is not the smartest QB in the league or even on this team. He didn't get to the NFL based on his intellegence. But I blame Tomlin, and Arians for allowing him to continue to make stupid decisions I mean how long does it take for a coach to say hey stupid if theres nothin there throw it away don't take a sack and get hurt or loose yards. I could see it on 3rd down but he gets sacked as much on 1st and 2nd down trying to be a hero. Most NFL QBs understand this by their 5th year as a starter but not Benji. I know quit picking on Benji but it is a fact that he has gotten worse in all aspects of the game over the past 2 seasons instead of better.

Other than the title, no where in that article does it say he has switched helmets. For all we know, the helmet was too tight because the equipment manager pumped too much air into it. I think Ben practiced with the new helmet, like Peyton's, after the motorcycle accident and felt that it impaired his vision when he looked side to side.

He had this option before. He told the press after the accident that he felt his vision was inhibited. I think he is just a douche.

Ooooooooh my o stuck, but talking about illiterate cocksuckers where did you find "betcha" in the dictionary? Sometimes it is better to be thought an idiot than open your mouth and remove all doubts. So until you learn the language Shut the F... up and ask your mother for another bottle of formula you retard.

Sorry to upset all you Ben fans but the truth hurts sometimes. So coke oven how does your bottle taste or did you LOSE it too? The reason his helmet is tight is probably due to the swelling from him thinking he knows it all not the head injury he sustained being sacked by the Browns. That game was proof that he is inept at his position. After almost a full 2 quarters of football against the mighty Cleveland Browns we only led by 7. Detroit would have been up by more. And go ahead and blame Arians but Arians was still the OC after Byron came in and boy what a difference that made from 7 - 0 to 31 - 0 big difference. I know the Browns were not preparing for Byron. That may just be the best reason to play Byron. Am I saying Leftwich is better? No but he is playing SMARTER and more EFFICIENTLY than superBen is. If I were Tomlin and SuperBen couldn't get it done I would not hesitate to pull him. The goal is to win however you can and if that means benching Ben so be it.

Stallworth, usually like and agree with your insights but....
1.
The idea of winning at all costs is not the Steeler way. The Steelers are a classy organization and will manage their team professionally the best way they can to win (and that's why they do). To bench Benji is classless at this point, since he has won 10 of 14 games and has earned to be the offensive leader of our football team. If you want a team that tries to win at all costs go to Dallas or Atlanta.
2.
The idea of his head swelling is simply rigoddamndiculous at this point. We're taling like ten days ago. Just b/c it's printed don't make it so. Bonorules seems to get it.

There's that logic again. There's names—I mean diagnosis's for that.

WTF? How can your skull swell? I thought the whole point of a concussion was your brain was swelling and your skull can't expand to accommodate the size.

I'll posit this, knowing that I am in no way qualfied (though, as a Steeler fan, I find that I'm qualified in consult on personel hires, draft picks, defensive schemes, offensive plays and coaching decisions that I might as well add medical trainer).

Most head injury swelling happens outside of the scull within the muscles and blood vessels (this explains the common "bump on the head" and is usually reserved for the front part closer to the forehead).
Brain swelling can occur after concussions and can cause some pain and discomfort for that period of time due to the swelling (along with other more serious side effects like death and loss of brain functions). In any case, as most likely in this case, the swelling is resolved quickly and returns to normal or else more serious problems persist. Whatever the case, I am certain that any swelling must have been alleviated by the time AP wrote that article.
