Re: New Article: Chargers-2 -- The Keys to Beating the Bolts
I'm surprised no one has used the old "Even the sun shines on a dog's ass once in a while" line on Mr. Titan guy.
Cut the guy some slack. Really. He's obviously a knowledgeable dude... So what if he's a Titans fan on a Steelers board? Really... What's all the fuss about? Would you rather he disappear and all of the 'others' come back that used to infest this board?
Let the dude be confident. They are the number one seed because they won... a lot... of games. Their run-game is solid. Collins 'aint no slouch'... And their defense has been flying under the radar in the big-boy talk. Let's just hope that he sticks around after Baltimore rips Tennessee a new culo.
/rant
Look... As far as this thread goes... It's SIMPLE:
1.) Mistake-free football from Ben. No INTs. No fumbles.
2.) Stop the run on defense. This shouldn't be too hard either with the conditions that await the Chah-juhs come Sunday.
If those two things happen... Nothing else matters in the game. It will be a Steelers win. The defense is going to show up with severe prejudice. They WILL bring the pain and WILL be creating turnovers. I'll put the o/u at 4. Anyone want in on that? Rivers throws the ball away almost every other pass when he actually has to throw. Although he has flashes of great accuracy, he's not going to a.) be able to effectively read Pittsburgh's defense or b.) have much time to throw the ball on passing downs.
Now...
Back to reality.

It is not an all consuming obsession that I have with this guy.
I just don't understand it, is all.
I come to the page to talk about the Steelers and the Steelers upcoming opponents. Not possible matchups pending the outcomes of this weekend's games. I don't care if Kevin Mawae is injured this week. If we play the Titans next week, then I'll care that Mawae is injured and maybe find out about the guy who is replacing him.
I care about the Chargers and the Steelers this week and that is it. Truth be told, I probably won't even watch the other games. I stopped being an NFL fan a few years ago when I had kids. I'm a fan of the Steelers, and that is it. I will watch their games if I happen to be home, but usually no others.
So, perhaps that is why I don't understand the impulse to come to another web page.
Back to the Bolts, I'm sticking by my answer. If the Steelers cut down on the costly errors from the first game, they win walking away. Then, I'll be willing to talk Titans or Ravens.

Exactly why the staff here has not banned him.
He has broken a rule or two and recieved short suspensions, but has not been banned becuse he does talk football, not just smack.
The staff at Stillers.com likes having knowledgeable fans of other teams here to talk and even debate football in a civilized fashion.
Just got to follow our rules like everyone else that posts here.
Steve has been doing that since his return, and so he is welcome to post here.

Re: New Article: Chargers-2 -- The Keys to Beating the Bolts
Everyone is talking about how Ben needs to not make many mistakes so we can win the game -- thanks Mr. Obvious for the in-depth analysis. It's no secret that teams do better when their QB's don't make mistakes, but how realistic is that? Ben is probably going to make a few mistakes and Rivers will probably do the same. Maybe one will play a helluva lot better than the other, but that's a coin-toss; this isn't last year's Ben.
What really matters is whether Arians can come into the game with a good scheme, and be able to keep his head out of his own ass to make some adjustments during. Also, the O-line hopefully comes ready and the Colon doesn't insist on getting retarded penalties and letting guys blow by him; Starks I'm looking at you too.
Finally, lets not forget we've lost some games in the past due to special teams, thank you cheating Patriot assholes, and this one might not be any different.
They have Scrifes and we have Berger - Huge advantage to SD. The O is going to have to consistently move the chains because even if the D causes 3 and outs, they'll be booming 50+ yard punts and Berger will be muffing more than Penthouse.
They have Sproles and we have FB's returning kicks - Huge advantage SD.
They have Kaeding and we have Reed - I'll take Reed, but I'm not as confident as I used to be.
One big play could shit this season away, and they're full of playmakers. Believe it or not, I'm still going with the Steelers but I think it's more of an uphill battle than most think. Of course, most of the battle will be caused by our short bus riding O-Coordinator.

How can you say that? The Steelers beat the Ravens twice and the Titans dominated the Steelers in every aspect.
*shrugs*
Be careful what you ask for.
Hey CJ, what Titans board to you go on? I ask just because I don't want to see you mysteriously vanish if the Ravens beat you this weekend

Re: New Article: Chargers-2 -- The Keys to Beating the Bolts
Watching ESPN, did I get this stat right?
Ben has 8 ints in his last three home playoff games and he's only 1-2 in those games?
That's an awful frightening stat if I got it right.
I could look it up, but I'm too tired right now.
Then again, when were his last three home playoff games?
Lost to the Jagoffs last year.
Didn't make the playoffs the year before. Won on the road three straight the year before. So, now we're into his rookie year.
Nevermind. That's not really a hugely relevant stat. Like how I just wasted your time to come to that conclusion?

No wasted time, brother.
I have seen all sorts of weird stats this week, and that is another example of a skewed stat.
Five of those INTs were in his rookie year. The other three were indeed against the Jaguars (Note: Ben had an amazing second half, to make up for those INTs).
It is similar to the stat that SD has beat the Steelers EVERY time the two teams have played in the play-offs...
...which is also to say that the Steelers have beaten the Viking EVERY time they have faced each other in the SuperBowl.
SD has been mentioning the "2-0" stat ad nauseum...when, actually, one should think that the Steelers are 13-2 against the Chargers in Pittsburgh.
Or, we could just say: third time's a charm!!!

I wonder if the talking faces are anticipating a complete and utter destruction on the part of the Steelers and are just talking up the Chargers for fans' sake or to drum up interest in the game or to look like geniuses in case there is an upset.
I've also seen the home team in the divisional round are 6-6 over the last three years, but something like 49-11 before that. Statistical anomalies abound!

The faces think Rivers should have been the starting pro bowl QB. The Chargers are media darlings - plain and simple.
I think the Stillers need to commit no turnovers, however, I would like to see Ben come out ala PITT/DENVER 2005 throwing the ball and throwing deep. I dont think the Chargettes will be expecting that. Then I want to see Silverback make Rivers cry

Like everyone here has said, if we win the turnover battle, we win. If Ten doesn't turn it over IN THE RED ZONE they win today. But it's all good. Baltimore is one beat up, tired team right now. When we win the tough guy contest with them, we win - and they're half wore our already.
BTW, I heard Ray Lewis on the radio today and he sounds punch drunk - noticible like. That's what happens when you go out of your way to make helmet to helmet contact on a regular basis to try and scare other grown men - worked with Miami I guess. Doesn't work against the Steelers.
How about that play today against Tenn when some fucker from Balt was trying to bend a guy backwards at the end of a play. Guarantee if he tried that against us you'd see Hines flying in from the perimeter taking out his knee or any other vulnerable area. That play really pissed me off.

I think that is what the Chargers will be expecting us to do. We haven't been able to run well all year. If we come out and are able to run the ball, that is what the Chargers won't be expecting.
Teams will cover downfield, understanding that Ben won't give up on a play until persuaded by the defense to do so. Ben's decisions to stay alive so long allow the defense to get there on a lot of plays without a blitz.
I understand that Ben makes a lot of plays for us like that so I'm not trying to sound critical of Ben necessarily, but it's true that Ben takes a lot of hits. Hard ones. Ones that would be called roughing if they happened against some other QBs.
We need to be able to run the ball tomorrow or two things are going to happen:
1) we will end up relying on our defense to take away the ball late in the game because we keep going three and out with a small lead.
2) Ben is going to get his recently concussed head beaten in.
Both of those suck.
We could still win without a decent running game against San Diego, but Ben and/or the defense will have to be heroic and the Chargers will have to make mistakes.

FWP gained 115 yards against SD.
