I'm sure I don't need to remind everyone of one of the biggest upsets in playoff history when the Chargers went into Three Rivers Stadium and beat the overconfident Steelers in the 1994 AFC Championship game. Looking ahead to Sunday's matchup, it was the Chargers defense that just held Peyton Manning and company to 17 points, the same Charger defense that did not allow the Steelers to score a touchdown in their regular season game. Worse, our starting quarterback, who has not really played all that well lately and who notoriously gets off to slow starts anyway, will be coming back from a concussion. I sure hope that he practices this week, and if he does not practice, then his ass needs to be on the bench. 2 weeks of no practice for Ben equals 3 or 4 interceptions and a plethora of other boneheaded mistakes. That with the combination of the idiot OC we have could spell one and done for our beloved Steelers.

So you're talking about that Charger defense that gave up 410 yards to our Steelers with Ben throwing for over 300 and Parker rushing for a buck and a quarter? It was the game Rivers tossed up two INTs and not Ben. It was the game the ruffs hit us with a 14 to two penalty disparity of 115 to 5 yards. Clearly one of the better offensive and defensive games by the numbers with the only scoring being stopped by calls. That same game the Chargers eked out under 220 total yards and their score helped by you guessed, a penalty.

If your looking back to 94 you do remember the Charger beat the Steelers in the final week of the regular season so I don't know why they'd be such underdogs. So OK to validate any 'real' concerns, yardage doesn't win games as proven in both of the 94 games with the Steelers owning that edge. But indications show that it was Rivers that was the bonehead in this year's match-up, and not your whipping boy Ben.

I think the Chargers should be more concern about the frozen excavation called Heinz Field than our team. Just how shifty will that little back be on that surface, and how good will Gates' ankle feel, and for hat matter, how cold will that bench feel on LT's ass? I also think their defense took a couple of hits as well in their win.

Ben and the Oline should hold the key to this game. If they limit mistakes I say the Steelers win by 13. Look at the SD schedule and compare it to ours. I saw Ben would have a QB rating over 100 this year as well if he was healthy and had to play the AFC west twice.

Also remember the Steelers are 5-0 in playoff games after a bye week. SD will be banged up after the Indy game.

I think our D will force a min of two turnovers on Sunday.

SD is 2-0 in playoff games in PGH. They took the Chargers lightly in '94 (obvious pass interference on Dennis Gibson notwithstanding); allowing Pupunu to run wild in the secondary.

At least there is no Tim McKyer or Bill Cowher to mess things up (although I'd rather have the
'94 O-line and Erhardt as OC). May there be a decent crew to work the game.
