I was against Leftwich coming into the Steelers. I was wrong, he is a great backup and I bet Jacksonville wishes they had not made that switch. I am a Garrard fan living inn ECU country but I think Lefty may have been better there. Then again he may have been hurt by playoff time last year

I don't see any way we can afford Lefty next year. Some team will pay him to compete for their number one job.

I do. The likelihood, on the other-hand, is slim-to-nil.

Lefty decides he wants to chillax on the bench behind a more-than-franchised QB of a team that finished well, with a team ready to compete the following year and, more than likely, years to come.

The dude is 28 and is watching the player between him and starting playtime take many-a-hit and is aware of the law of averages. I mean... There's your Steve McNairs... Then there's your Big Bens. I'm not so sure that Ben is going to be as 'durable' as McNair was throughout HIS career.

He's in a prime position right now.

I don't see Batch ever dressing as a Steeler again after this season.

I don't know what the average backup QB salary is... But I'd imagine it's in the $450K-600K area... depending on 'veteran' pay-increase and such.

(For the record... I'm not one of you type that knows the in-and-outs of the business aspect of football. Eat it. Pertinent to my post. I'm hoping those of you that ARE one of these types chimes in on salaries, the salary cap, and what lies ahead on the PS books in coming seasons.)

Ben ate grandma's windshield... And isn't exactly the smartest dude on the block in the first place. He's got a bit of arrogant 'derka derka; about 'em. I REALLY believe him being a complete dumbass keeps him from being a phenomenal QB... And at the way he takes hits... I mean... in the past 3 years, he's 3-for-3 in getting a concussion. That's just under HALF as many as Steve Young. Merril Hoge's noggin' got jacked up too.

Byron knows he's gonna get paid either way.... And MAY just be in a position to slip into the starting role of a CONSISTENTLY-in-the-playoffs team... Maybe a Super Bowl victory won't be necessary in my scenario. Who knows?

He's basically a black Big Ben... With a better play-action, a lil more speed... and relies more on timing than waiting for a receiver to get 5 steps on his man.

I'uno... Like I said...

Slim-to-nil.

Wouldn't hurt my feelings any if he stuck around. I like the dude.

Batch is currently making in the neighborhood of 1.2 to 1.4 mil.

To say the team can't afford to keep him but pay Starks 7 mil, and extend Simmons in a stupid move is ludicrous. For those that want Lefty to start a playoff game must have forgotten the big 3 points he mustered up in his only one played, with a 61 passer rating. The knee jerk reactionary fans armed with numbers on fan sites would never have given Bradshaw a chance to QB 4 Super Bowl winning teams.

Mop-up QBs are always the fan favorites, until other teams prepare to defend the windmill no touch 80 mph thrower.

Byron does look good when he does get in the game, but Ben possesses that X-factor. On any given play Ben can hit a home run. He frustrates me so much when he holds on the ball for soo long, but you gotta give it to him, he doesn't fase with defenders in front of him. He lives and dies with each play.

Maybe he won't last another 5 seasons a la McNair, but I think at this time he gives us the best shot at a SB. I am glad that Byron is the back up not Batch..Batch had some horrindous PT when he was in there..

What about using both of them?

We don't use the same defensive lineman for the entire game...nor do we use the same running backs. I know it's not SOP to alternate quarterbacks, but would doing so be some sort of crime against nature???

If we start Ben next week and he throws a pick or can't move the offense, what's wrong with putting in Lefty for a couple of drives???

Funny, because windmill Webster never had an 04 or 05. Yet he should start. Logical huh!

Scream all you want but Byron is playing with more poise, brains, and confidence than Ben is and the team hasn't lost a beat. That being said I just wish if Ben was slumping we should be more willing to put Byron in. Screw egos and favorites, Right now Mr. Leftwich is playing more consistant.

All Ben does is win games. That's all I give a shit about. If you truly believe Leftwich would have brought the Steelers back against Jacksonville, San Diego, Dallas and the Ratbirds twice then let's switch 'em right now.

Who's to say had Leftwich started those games, he would have been in a position to HAVE to come back from behind?
