audibles at the line

Postby steelblood14 » Mon Dec 22, 2008 7:50 pm

now i don't want this thread to become ben bashing, because number 7 will be the reason we win another lombardi this year. maybe some people on here who have access to film and watch the games more than once can disprove what i'm about to say, but i have noticed something the past few weeks....
it seems that when ben appears to change the play at the line of scrimmage it is always to a run play, so stupid slow draw or the like and we lose 4 yards. in the past few games i honestly can't remember see what appeared to be an audible and then a pass afterward. maybe its all just smoke and mirrors and ben is eventually just running the original play being called, but it just seems like it happens that way every time.

anyone else notice that or am i seeing things?

I noticed the same thing during the Titans game. Twice on the same drive he audibled into slow developing draws, I think one went for a short gain the other for a loss.

The way he conducts himself before the snap has been a concern of mine for awhile.

Is he acting like Peyton on purpose?

IMO, he takes way to long to set a play in motion. They come to the line with 5-8 seconds left on the play clock, and he uses every bit of it. Why? I see this as giving an advantage to the defense. Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't it benefit the defense to KNOW the QB HAS to snap the ball right NOW! Would that not give you an excellent jump on the snap?
Couldn't he mix things up and just snap the ball immediately after everyone is set? Wouldn't this help keep the defense off balance?

Another thing, maybe a topic for another thread, but why is the ball snapped damn near over his head when in shotgun? Isn't Ben like 6'5+???? Seems to me like he is reaching over his head to catch the ball an awful lot during shotgun formations.
