Not sweating this loss

Postby El Nino » Sun Dec 21, 2008 5:11 pm

First off, we got the #2 seed and a first round bye for the playoffs, and are not in a must win vs cleveland and can rest some of our guys who are banged up (especially clark and harrison).

I think our team was going in a little complacent, not playing with any sense of urgency and this was a wake up call. I also liked how the Titans were disrespectful in their win. If anything fires up the steelers, it's disrespect. With the games we've been winning by close margins and only waking up in the 4th quarter to win, maybe we needed a stinging loss to wake the team up.

RB situation worries me the most. How many negative yardage plays do we have to get out of willie parker before we finally realize that moore should be the starter? We were running the same plays with moore and willie, and willie was running for -2 and -5 while moore was making 4 yd+ gains on them. he's the better rb for this single back formation we like to run. Willie parker runs for so many negative yardage plays, he's like the second coming of barry sanders, minus the gamebreaking ability.

good post and I agree

our O is horrible - has been for weeks, most of the season and that may do us in the Playoffs - home, away or in Russia

ARIANS is the first place to FIRE, then get some players in the draft / FA, Nate the Great is a FA and will be gone so we need a solid #3 or Sweed to grow up quickly

A healed Mendy will help - why Russell is not playing baffles me EVERY week.

Moore had close to 50 all purpose yard on 5 plays, I don't understand the fascination with keeping Parker in there. This O was half way decent and slightly unpredictable with MM getting the start, plug this kid in and I would bet on us being able to add a few extra TD's every game. This is getting ridiculous, this is almost as bad as Cowher's loyalty to Stewart.

IM glad we lost. I hate losing but this is going to make it even better for us throughout these playoffs, people will doubt s and that is the only time we play the way we should. WHEN PITTSBURGH IS THE UNDER DOG WE WIN
Dynasty in the making..........

We have the pieces to the puzzle.

Face it...they are not complacent. They are no good. Tough pill to swallow, but that offense we have scares absolutely NO ONE.

What you saw today is what happens when another team figures out a way to put up some points on us.

This whole entire thought process of us "being pissed off" or "fired up" or "complacent" is nothing but chicken shit. Save that crap for the HS games.

This is professional football. They get paid to win regardless.

I must be the only one who doesn't blame Bruce for everything wrong with this offense. Really, doesn't Ben have the ability to audible at the line? Isn't the Qb position as accountable for calling/game planning good plays vs. teams in this day n age in the NFL as the coaches? He has to be, or for 100 mil, he should be. There is sooooo more than one person/OL to blame for shitty offense. With out a doubt Bruce has done some stupid stuff(Limiting Moore's P/T), and will continue to do some foolish things. Willie Parker is fast, and he is tough. He does not have great vision. Why we run those slow developing stretch plays where he is looking for a hole and is not attacking the line with pace only seems to be robbing us of Parker's best talents, and playing toward his weakness. I don't have all the answers, and yes most DL's overmatch our OL, but bitching that it is always The Bruce is just being a whiner.

I couldn't believe that Nantz and Simms were saying obvious P/I call on Sweed. Harper wasn't even looking for the ball. He was lost. Sweed was playing the ball. A true pro would catch that pass. Come on Limas!!

Don't get too excited about Sweed.

Apparently, the scouts never evaluated this guy on what matters most for his position:

The ability to catch the ball.

This POS has dropped almost every ball thrown his way this year.

not entirely true. they rode the 2005 season into the superbowl with the chip on their shoulder about being disrespected

We got beat today... plain and simple. We left 10 points on the field early on (Ben's fumble, with a wide open receiver in the corner of the EZ and Reeds miss of a chip shot FG) that could have changed the game. Our defense was not nearly as dominant as it has been all year. Ben had a terrible game. All that said, I wouldn't read too much into it. Any NFL team can beat any other NFL team on any given Sunday. I didn't see Tennessee dominating us as much as I saw us not playing Steeler football. I look forward to seeing Tennessee again in the playoffs. Thanks Lendale for the BB material (any one remember the antics of a certain Bengal in 2005)?
