Dan Rooney to gain controlling interest in sale of STEELERS

Postby wrknstiff » Sat Nov 15, 2008 10:09 am

Fox Sports.Com reports that the Pittsburg Tribune is reporting that the brothers have come to an agreement to make Dan Rooney and Art Rooney II majority owners.Sorry about a link, computer illiterate here. The fox article didnt have much details except that the brothers are now in a hurry to sell because Obama will kill them in taxes now.If this is true and plays out this way,I for 1 will be happy it stays on the rooney family.

This is great news...... I think the key to any successful sports organization is the culture cultivated from the front office. This is why winning organizations keep winning, and why losing organizations keep losing. Although passing ownership within the Rooney family does not necessarily guarantee sustaining the winning culture, the chances of that are far better than had the ownership been transferred to different party altogether.
Whenever Tom Brady loses, it's always someone else's fault.

All right! He hasn't even taken office yet and already you're pleased about something he's done.

Do you think Dan was all gung-ho in favor of O because of this development?

logjammin,
I'm not gonna hyjack this important thread about Steelers ownership with any more talk of politics. (I was just trying to be funny).
If you want my answer to your question, there is a thread discussing it in Rant.

Again, it is great news that Dan Rooney will retain control over the Steelers! :celebrate:

The chief is rolling over in his grave...he bought the team for what 25K? He equally divided the shares of the team among his sons and now #1 son has to pay $800 mil to the rest of the brothers to keep the team? Where is Dan and little Art going to score $800 mil? What will this do to the team budget for signing players? But hey congrats on keeping your own team Dan and Art.

For all my aggrevation with Dan for the O endorsement. I am just thankful the Hedge fund billionaire didnt get to buy the team. All I could imagine was a Jerry Jones clone owning the Stillers fighting for media attention, bringing in high price thugs and premadonnas. That would cause Art to roll over in his grave.

All is right with the world.

The Rooney's will continue to own the Steelers
We have the #1 Defense
Possbility for a #1 seed
HC that will could easily be the Steelers third HC in a row in the HOF
(I am assuming Cowher gets in a couple of years)

This could be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how much debt Dan and Art Rooney II had to take on to get this done.

If it was a lot, the team could be hamstrung for years to come.

This will do NOTHING to the team budget for signing players. This is not baseball. People used to complain about the Rooneys being cheap. I complain about people being misinformed. With the salary cap and revenue sharing, every team has full use of its salary cap money. I don't recall any team ever not having enough money to hire players. If a team is far under the cap, it is most likely due to the fact they don't want to overpay players simply to use up cap space. Now, where they could run into problems is in facilities and staffing. Just wanted to clear that up before we moved on. :sufootballreferee:
